East Lincoln Optimists

The East Lincoln Optimists will hold their monthly board meeting on Monday March 4 at 7:30 p.m.

 

E. L. Optimists Baseball & Softball Sign-ups

The East Lincoln Optimists will hold sign-ups for baseball, T-ball, coach-pitched baseball and softball Saturday March 2 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Boys. ages 5 to 16, and girls, ages 5 to 15, are eligible to participate.

The cost is $45 for T-ball and coached pitched; $65 for ages 9 to 12 and $75 for ages 13 to 16.

Sign-ups will be at the clubhouse on Optimist Club Road.

 

Softball Umpire clinic

Spring Adult Men Flag Football

Lincolnton/Lincoln County Parks & Recreation is looking for adults and youth interested in forming Spring adult and youth flag football leagues. For more information call the recreation office at 704-735-2671.

 

Carolina Panthers Cheerleading squad tryouts

The Carolina Panthers will hold tryouts for the team’s cheerleading squad, the TopCats, on Saturday March 9 at Ericsson Stadium in Charlotte. TO audition for the squad, a candidate must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate by March 9.

Registration for tryouts begins at 9 a.m. Contestants are asked to wear one-piece or two-piece leotards suitable for dance routines. A round of cuts will be made March 9. The following day will be semi-finalists, at which time the group will be pared down to approximately 65 finalists. Those remaining contestants will be asked to rehearse for a week before final selections are made in late March.

Tryouts will be closed to the public and are expected to last the entire day. Those interested in auditioning for the TopCats should call the information hotline at 704-358-7533.

 

Hickory YMCA will host a 5K, Lifeguard and advanced lifeguard classes.

The Hickory Foundation YMCA, 701 1st St., NW, will host the Spring Chase 5K March 23 at 9:30 a.m. with a tot trot at 8:30 a.m. and a one-mile fun run at 9 a.m. Proceeds will benefit North Carolina Special Olympics and the YMCA Partners Campaign.

Hickory YMCA sports registration

Hickory Foundation YMCA announces spring sports registration schedule and a free hockey inline.

The Hickory Foundation YMCA, located at 701 1st St., NW, in Hickory, announces registration dates for the following youth spring sports.

Youth Baseball: Monday, March 4 – Friday, April 5

Fees for ages 3-4 are $35 for members and $50 for participants. Fees for all other ages are $40 for members and $60 for participants.

Girls volleyball leagues for ages 10-18. Registration continues through Wednesday, March 6. Fee is $40 for members and $60 for participants.

A player’s clinic will be held Saturday, March 9.

Registration for Adult Volleyball will be held Monday, March 4 – Monday, April 1. Fee is $250 per team.

Ten Star Basketball Camp

Applications are now being evaluated for the Ten Star All Star Summer Basketball Camp.

The camp is by invitation only. Boy and girls, ages 10-19 are eligible to apply. College basketball scholarships are possible for players selected to the All-American Team.

Blue Chip Girls Basketball Shootout

Blue Chip Girls Basketball Shootout is coming to N.C. State in Raleigh on Sunday, March 17. All applications should be in the office by March 3.

This one-day Shootout is a high exposure event designed for the student athlete who aspires to play at the college level. Each athlete will have the opportunity to compete against quality competition during the NCAA “live” period for college recruiters.

The athletes will play three games on teams that are coached by area basketball coaches.

Metrodome Invitational Tournament

The National Amateur Baseball Association is currently looking for high school and/or Baseball players ages 13-15, 16-18, and 20 and under, that would like to be a part of our 2002 National Invitational Wooden Bat Showcase Tournament to be held in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, Home of the Minnesota Twins, June 13-16, and June 20-23.

Bryan Adrian Spring Basketball League

Registration is now open for the 18th Bryan Adrian Spring Basketball League and the 24th Summer Basketball Camp.

The Spring League Registration is held through April 15. Locations include East Mecklenburg High School, and South Mecklenburg High School in Charlotte.

Boys and girls ages 5-18 are eligible. Included on the Camp Staff are Kris Lang of UNC and Jobey Thomas UNCC.

The Summer Basketball Camp is held at St. Ann’s Catholic School in Charlotte. The date is July 15-19. Boys and girls ages 5-18 are eligible.

Another summer camp will be held at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, N.C. The date is July 7-11. Included on the camp staff are: Lang UNC, Jason Capel UNC, Anthony Grundy NC State, and Darius Songaila Wake Forest.
