Get ready for North Lincoln High Patriots

TERRANCE THOMAS, LTN Sports Writer

Feb. 15, 2002 - PUMPKIN CENTER — Look out for the North Lincoln High School Patriots or the Knights of North Lincoln as they lock up with the Wolves, Rebels and Mustangs.

While at the Pumpkin Center-East Lincoln middle school basketball game the other day, I decided to ask some of the Pumkin Center students what would they like the nickname of their future high school to be.

I got a variety of answers from the regular names like Bulldogs, Trojans, Rams, Eagles and Warriors to the others like Dragons and Yellow Jackets, Titans and the Pride.

But the most popular names were the Patriots, the Knights and the Tigers.

The North Lincoln Patriots. That pick had to come from the Super Bowl winners obvious. But it also has to do with the pride of our country since the terrorists’ attacks on September 11.

Most like the red, white and blue as the colors for the Patriots.

Well, its a lot different from Wolves, Rebels and Mustangs.

The North Lincoln Knights has a nice ring to it too. One coach said the future school’s teams should wear black, silver and red.

The North Lincoln Tigers or North Lincoln White Tigers as one kid suggested. Maybe some orange and black with that. Orange and black is also pumpkin’s colors, which residents of the area may like.

Several students preferred Maroon and gold as the new schools colors.

I like maroon and gold. That was my high school colors. We were the Swamp Foxes. Don’t laugh. We had a really good football program.

Maroon and gold was also my mother’s high school’s colors. Ironically, the school nickname was the Fightin’ Tigers.

Some kids felt their middle school team’s colors, light blue and navy blue, should be chosen.

Whatever nickname or colors the school should have, please let the students pick them.

They showed pride in supporting Pumpkin Center as their beloved Panthers won the games that day.

They will show more pride if they got a chance to pick their school’s mascot and colors.
