Panther girls keep winning

Published January 21, 2004

By JOHN MARK BROOKS, Staff Writer

————————————

The Lady Panthers go to 4-0 for the first time in school history, defeating East Rutherford, Burns, Lincolnton and East Lincoln.

Against Lincolnton, the Lady Panthers were led by Kayla Alexander with 19 points, Ashley Lester with six points and Michelle Thorn with three points. Annalise Farris and Jasmine Jubenville each chipped in with two points.

Head coach Gary Crouse was pleased with his team’s defensive play. Although, at times they were a little too aggressive.

“Our defense committed 22 fouls which kept them in the game in the first half,” he said.

Against East Crouse was very pleased with his team’s overall play.

“We played our best balanced game of the season. Eight players scored in the game and our defense played very aggressively which caused a lot of turnovers,” he said.

Kayla Alexander paced the Lady Panthers with 12 points, while teammate Taylor Ewing contributed with eight points. Amanda Leonard had six points off the bench.

Jasmine Jubenville scored five points and Annalise Farris had four. Kayla Childers, Emily Torbert and Michelle Thorn rounding out the scoring with two points each.

According to Crouse, this is the fourth game Jubenville and Taylor Ewing have been strong on the boards.

“They’ve dominated board play on both ends of the court. They’ve blocked shots and also gotten offensive rebounds,” he said.
