The West Lincoln Middle School Lady Chiefs opened their 2004 season with an impressive 53-4 win over the Chase Lady Pirates.
All 15 Lady Chief players saw extensive playing time in the season opener.
Assistant Coach Sally Logan cited outstanding defensive play as the key to the team's successful victory. "We have really worked on shutting down the offense with our man-to-man
defense. The kids really worked hard in today's game and the results of their efforts were obvious."
Logan, assisting Coach Angel Watson this season, is a 1000-point scorer for West Lincoln High School, who played at the collegiate level for Lenoir Rhyne College.
Coach Watson, who became the mother of a baby girl on December 29th, is thrilled to have the help. "Sally is a really valuable part of our program. The kids just love her and she
has taught them so much during my absence." stated Watson.
"We are lucky to have her on the bench. Her playing experience and the way she relates to the players has been a very positive addition to this year's team."
The Chiefs were led by Elle Tallent who scored 12 points, followed by Kayda Caldwell with nine. Other leading scorers for the Chiefs included Allison Johnson with eight and Sarah Norman
with six.
Rounding out the scoring column for the Lady Chiefs were Miranda Sigmon, Ashley Workman, and Beth Pitman with four points each. Laura Barrett, Kelly Beam, and Nikki Walker also scored
two points each. The win moves the Lady Chiefs to 1-0 on the season.
