Wolves huff and puff and blow down Chase

By STEVE KAY,  Sports Correspondent

Jan. 30, 2002 - Lincolnton made sure it didn’t overlook Chase this time, as the Wolves blasted the Trojans 90-55.

The Wolves opened hot and stayed hot, shooting 62.3 percent from the floor. The 90 points represent Lincolnton’s most points in a game this season.

The Wolves blew away Chase from the start, making eight of their 14 shots in each of the first two periods to race out to a 40-23 halftime lead.

There was no let up in the third period as the Wolves increased their advantage to 23 points as they won going away.

It was a banner night in the offense department for the Wolves.

Eric Wilson recovered from a sub par game at Newton Friday to score 22 points to top the balance of Wolves scoring.

Steady Robbie Lewis continued his hot shooting going five of six from the floor, making three 3-pointers in the opening period. Lewis finished with 15 points.

Also, Junior Smith and Jeremy Degree both had career highs with 12 points each.

Bryan Finger added 11 points in the quarter and leading scorer points.

Darren Wilson (9 points), Randall Chambers (4) and Herman Lopez (5) also got in the scoring party.

Coach Bob Cowie played his reserves most of the last 12 minutes of the contest.

The Wolves upped their  Midwest Conference record to 5-4 , with arch-rivals West and East coming to Lincolnton this weekend.

Lady Wolves get by Chase

Lincolnton’s girls beat Chase for the second time this season winning 46-34 at home.

Andrea Stroup led the Lincolnton scoring with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Stroup hit all three of her shots from the foul line.

Senior Lauren Bartholomew was also in double figures with 11 points.

The game was actually won in the first two quarters, as the Lady Wolves bolted out to a 12- point lead, 27-15.

Lincolnton held Chase scoreless for almost four minutes to open the game to lead 16-6 at the end of the first quarter.

In that first period the Lady Trojans couldn’t make their first field goal until 1:35 mark left in the stanza.

The rest of the way

Chase played the second half, even in the scoring department but couldn’t make a move to get closer.

Both teams netted eight points in the third period and 11 in the fourth quarter.

For the game the Lady Wolves shot 44.1 percent on 15 of 34 from the field and 14 of 25 from the foul line.

The win moves Lincolnton to 7-2 in league play and 8-5 overall
