 “Choo Choo” Justice and others will be inducted into Saturday’s Cherryville Sports Hall of Fame

Former UNC running back, Charlie “Choo Choo” Justice will receive an honorary induction in the Cherryville Sports Hall of Fame Saturday night.

Justice, who also starred in the Washington Redskins’ backfield, has owned an insurance company here for years.

The fifth annual Sports Hall of Fame banquet starts at 5:30 Saturday night at Cherryville Country Club.

Ten of Cherryville’s finest will be inducted Saturday. The inductees will include Jerry Randall, Sonny Randall, Shawn Lauer, the late John Smith, John Devine, Cindy Summer, Floyd Wright, Sylvia White, M.L. Shull, and Calvin Hastings.

The ten induction’s bring the Sports Hall of Fame membership

 

Lincolnton Middle School boys win Christmas tournament

Lincolnton Middle School’s boy’s basketball team won the Chase Invitational Christmas Tournament in December.

On Dec. 17 LMS defeated R.S. Central by at score of 44-32. Zack Gibson (19 points), and Aaron Byrd (10) led LMS.

On Dec. 18 they defeated West Lincoln Middle School in the championship game, 30-28. The top scorers were Gibson (20), and Byrd (six).

 

LMS girls defeated PCMS Monday

The Lincolnton Middle School Girls basketball team defeated Pumpkin Center M.S. 28-21 Monday.

 Scorers for LMS were Brittany Jones 18, Jessie Kline 4, Brittany Ebert 2, Brittany Cash 2, and Ingrid Bonilla 2.

Scorers for PCMS were Lovejoy 9, Henry 6, Mabe 4, and Henley 2.

Lincolnton’s record is now 1-2. Pumpkin Center’s record is 0-2.               

 

West JV girls fall to Bandys

West Lincoln High School J. V. girls basketball team were defeated by Bandys, 51-46 Tuesday. The Lady Rebels’ record is 10-2.

The top contributors for West were Jessica Grigg (15), Emily Davis (10), Karla Sigmon (7), Heather Lanier (7), Ashley Griffin (4), Brittany Watts (2), and Tamika Werts (1). 

West’s key player, Heather Peterson fractured her wrist and will miss several games.
