Fall brings many things — brightly colored leaves, Halloween candy and the Lincoln Times-News Holiday Cookbook.
Each year area cooks contribute their favorite recipes to be published in the cookbook and to compete for cash prizes.
Recipes have been compiled and printed into this special section for more than 30 years.
In the past, contestants competed for appliances, charity donations and gift certificates.
Cash awards are now presented to contest winners in five categories — main dish, desserts, breads, fruits and vegetables, and children’s division.
Finalists are chosen from the recipes submitted and are required to participate in a taste test.
Recipes are prepared and judged by a panel. Intoxicating smells seep from the kitchen at the newspaper on the big day. Judges are left alone in the room to taste and talk about the
dishes.
With full plates, pen and paper, judges choose winning dishes.
All entries are published in the cookbook. Winners are featured with interviews and pictures.
The deadline for this year’s contest is Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Recipes should be typed or clearly written and submitted by mail email, social@ltnews.com, or by mail, PO Box 40, Lincolnton, N.C. 28093.
The taste test will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Lincoln Times-News office.
Contest rules and entry blanks are printed regularly in the paper.
Look through your old family recipes, share them with the community and win a cash prize.
