WLMS students cut teacher’s ‘locks of love’
From staff reports
October 23, 2002 - The media center at West Lincoln Middle School was transformed into a beauty salon earlier this month.
Students in Mrs. Shaffer’s 6-8th-grade classes gathered for the special event.
The top 10 Reading Counts point earners were going to cut the teacher’s hair. Students had competed for weeks to earn the most points from taking RC tests.
Lee Ann Hull, a local beautician, came in to supervise students and to finish the hair cutting.
By the end of home base, Mrs. Shaffer had a new hair style, and there were 10 long locks ready to be sent to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that
provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children across the U.S. under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss.
The top 10 RC point earners were:
Amanda Wallace
Daniel Evans
Angela Carpenter
Brittany Moncree
K.W. Short
Gene Sullivan
Lori Sparks
Steffan Moran
Nicole Christopherson
Miranda Bradley
