Senior citizens take to the cat walk

By DIANE TURBYFILL, LTN Staff Writer

October 2, 2002 - Seniors strutted their stuff on the cat walk last week at The Brian Center.

Bon-Worth Factory Outlet hosted a fashion show in the retirement home’s main dining room Thursday — featuring store personnel, shoppers, and Brian Center staff and residents as models.

“I think it went wonderfully,” said Sandy Ewing, activity director and model. “The residents seemed to enjoy it.”

The elderly men and women took their places in the dining room.

As women strolled through the room, showing their styles, residents commented on what outfits would suit their needs, and what colors complemented the models.

The clothes ranged from pant suits with removable jackets to sweatshirts labeling their wearers as the World’s Greatest Grandmother.

Resident Irene Mosteller said she especially liked the pants outfits Sandy modeled.

“She had on beautiful clothes.”

Sandy said it seemed logical to have the local store hold the show.

“A lot of our families shop at Bon-Worth.”

With the seasons changing and Christmas creeping up, many residents plan to tell their families about the pull-overs and pants they saw at the show.

Sylvia Wall, Bon-Worth area manager, said the company is trying to make themselves more visible in the market.

“We’re trying to get our name out, and we do cater to older people.”

Walls said the company is holding more and more fashion shows. And if the shoppers can’t come to them, they’ll come to the shoppers.
