Pick o’ the Patch of themselves

Pumpkins are a prize worth pursuing

Oct. 31 - No doubt about it: Pumpkins are popular this time of year. Whether picking one out for carving, painting or eating, the pulply round fruit of the trailing pumpkin vine is an autumn standout.

The front lawn of Boger City United Methodist Church has been filled with bright, orange pumpkins this month.To raise money for their mis-sion work, the church has been hosting a pumpkin patch, that has sold more than 100 pumpkins each day. (Below) Kady Jackson, 4, picks her favorite pumpkin this week with her family.

Senior Craft Sale

Oct. 26 - Orpha Self has created a table full of crafts for sale Nov. 3 during the Senior Citizens Council craft fair at Boger City United Methodist Church. Some 25 crafters are expected to participate.

Bill Yoder puts the finishing touches on a bird house that will be for sale during the Senior Citizens Council craft show Nov. 3. The show runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Boger City United Methodist Church. In addition to woodwork, crochet, embroidered items, stuffed animals, decorated sweatshirts, handmade dolls, doilies, seasonal ornaments and decorations and baked goods will be available. Prices range from $1 to $20. Some 25 crafters are expected to participate. The annual show started in the 1970s. The council is associated with the Cooperative Extension Service.

Center aims to stir up ‘excitement’

Oct. 26 - The glow of hand-made lamps and twinkling lights entwined in vines illuminates the Lincoln Cultural Center’s gift shop.

It’s a new look, and one which its director Lincolnton artist Kae Wright — also new — hopes will draw attention and shoppers to downtown.

Kae Wright, coordinator of the Lincoln Cultural Center Gift Shop, is busy reorganizing the shop, located on the first floor of the center.

Caring women first take care of themselves

A timely reminder:

Oct. 24 - I attended a Breast Cancer Breast Cancer Survivor breakfast last week at Denver United Methodist Church — a first-time event intended to honor breast cancer survivors.

It was informative and uplifting and the event was very timely, as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
