What do you get when you cross over 35 churches and 11 denominations in a baseball field? The first Youth Rally themed F.R.O.G — Fully Rely On God.

Boger City United Methodist Church hosted the youth rally sponsored and supported by five United Methodist churches Sept. 12-14.

Pastor Keys Pendleton stated that although Boger City UMC thought of the idea, it would not have been possible without the supporting churches of Asbury, First Methodist, Pisgah and Crouse.

Each of the three nights, youth were able to have fellowship with one another and play in the MoonWalk provided by the Lincoln County YMCA.

They played volleyball and football and even had the opportunity to soak several of the local pastors and youth in the dunking booth.

The youth were fed supper prepared by Boger City’s “food team” and Saturday night, enjoyed dinner provided by Bar-B-Q King.

Local Christian contemporary singers from Crouse UMC and First Methodist Church performed Friday and Saturday nights before the Rev. Chris Hughes led the youth in a passionate uplifting message each night.

Hughes is a playful passionate prophet dedicated to helping folks of all ages. He is a member of the Alabama-West Florida annual conference, appointed to the Southeastern Jurisdiction connectional ministry staff, working in the general area of discipleship ministries. Major areas of focus include youth, young adult and older adult ministries, worship, evangelism and leader training.

Hughes has produced several CD projects including “Light the Fire” with Ed Kilbourne, and other resources for ministry including: “The Kadasha Workbook,” “Experiential Worship for the Next Generation” (co-authored with ministry colleague Jennifer McSwain) and “New Wine and Fresh Bread, A Taste of Postmodern Worship” (video tape and discussion guide), and a chapter titled “Youth and Their Music” in “Making God Real to a New Generation, a 2003 discipleship resources book.

He has been a youth pastor in several churches and has also served as an editor of youth resources for the United Methodist Publishing House, a college chaplain, and a college instructor.

Anyone interested in being a part of next year’s youth rally should contact Janet Reep, one of the youth leaders for Crouse UMC at mosaicsbyjanet@charter.net or Pastor Keys Pendleton of Boger City UMC at don_keys@juno.com or at the church office.
