Instructors featured in upcoming Arts Council exhibit

Teacher’s Pets

Paintings, pastels and pen and ink will fill the galleries at the Lincoln Cultural Center beginning Sunday, Sept. 14.

The Lincoln Arts Council will host a show entitled, “Teacher’s Pets,” sponsored by King’s Office Supply. The exhibit will feature the works of public school and private art teachers.

Mary Jane Howard, executive director of the Lincoln Arts Council, says the show — now in its second year — gives students a chance to see what their teachers can create.

Participants in this year’s show are up from last year, mainly due to the number of instructors in the county.

“The school system has added more art teachers this year, which is wonderful,” Howard says.

Participants in the show include Michelle Allison, Ann Anderson, Kim Beam, Quita Biggerstaff, Cheryl Williams Buckner, Jennifer Childers, Lynn Dermott, Tony Fernetti, Debbie Frye, Donna McMahon, Elizabeth Millsaps, Denise Nelson, Clint Pendleton, Leah Rogers, Laurie Shouse, Cole Sigmon, Preston Springer and Kim Stamey.

Participating teachers work at the following schools:

Allison at Pumpkin Center Elementary

Anderson at Lincolnton Middle

Beam at North Brook and Union Elementary schools

Biggerstaff at West Lincoln Middle

Buckner at East Lincoln Middle

Childers at Iron Station, S. Ray Lowder and Rock Springs Elementary schools

Fernetti at West Lincoln High

Frye at Pumpkin Center Middle

McMahon through the Lincoln Arts Council

Millsaps at East Lincoln High

Nelson at Battleground and Love Memorial

Rogers through Lincoln Arts Council

Shouse at East Lincoln High

Sigmon at Lincolnton High

Springer at North Lincoln High

And Stamey at G.E. Massey, St. James and S. Ray Lowder

The exhibit will be on display Sept. 14 through 29.

The opening reception will be held on Sunday, Sept. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the cultural center. The galleries will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m.

The gallery will also be open all day during the Apple Festival, Sept. 20.

Howard says the festival presents a great opportunity to feature the artists.

“These people all work here in Lincoln County, and we’d like the people in Lincoln County to see all the wonderful teachers we have,” she says.
