Farming Fun

September 6, 2002 - Students in Rebekah Leonard's class at First Presbyterian Church enjoyed life "Down on the Farm" Thursday. The kindergarten class explored life on a farm in preparation for their upcoming field trip to Bah Moo Farm. Students sang songs, played games, read books and learned about the letter "F." ‘For Love of Art’

September 13, 2002 - The Lincoln Arts Council will present the works of area art teachers of Lincoln County in, “For Love of Art.”

The opening reception will be Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. in the Carolina Mills Gallery of the Lincoln Cultural Center, 403 E. Main St.

Galle heads to Hawaii for Mrs. America Pageant

September 13, 2002 - Mrs. North Carolina America 2002, Wendy Galle of Sherrills Ford is in Honolulu preparing for the Mrs. America Pageant.

Galle joins 50 other married women from around the nation at the Hilton Hawaiian Village as they compete for the title of Mrs. America 2002.

Farmers ‘A-maized’ by new found success

September 20, 2002 - An A-Maizing Corn Field awaits those who step up to the challenge in Vale.

Since last spring, Caroll Mitchem, Wayne Mitchem and Daniel Houser have planted and plowed, creating a towering maze in the shape of a tractor pulling the words, Vale, NC.

100th birthday

September 25, 2002 - Carrie Kiser Lynch was born Sept. 7, 1902 in the Landers Chapel Area. She celebrated her 100th birthday recently with a party at Pisgah United Methodist Church. Members showered her with birthday cards.  She has three children, Bobby Lynch, James Lynch, and Katherine Camp; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Senior citizens volunteered last week, making apple pies to sell during Apple Festival. (Right) Pinkie Mosteller helped make the pies that served as a fund-raiser. Pies were sold for $5 each.

Apples are plentiful at the Apple Festival, but children find time to get their faces painted, hair colored and arms put in casts.
