From staff reports

Dr. Deborah Perry of Lincoln Family Practice volunteered her on Thursday, July 24 to perform sports physicals for Lincoln County School athletes.

With some sports practices starting as early as Monday, a wide representation of student athletes from middle and high schools in Lincoln County were at the Lincoln Medical Center Wellness Room at the YMCA to get last minute sports physicals for the 2003-04 school year.

As a requirement to participate in any sport, students must complete a sports physical.

More than 30 students came to the Lincoln County Family YMCA to fulfill this requirement and were charged a minimal fee.

The $15 charge for sports physicals was set in order for Lincoln Medical Center to pay the physician for their time. In just two hours, Perry completed 37 sports physicals for a total of $555.

Instead of choosing to be paid for her time, she donated the money to Hospice of Lincoln County. Perry is the medical director for Hospice of Lincoln County.

Lincoln Medical Center will perform sports physicals one additional day at the Lincoln County YMCA before Lincoln County schools begin on Aug. 7.

Dr. Rod Redelsperger of Carolinas Internal Medicine Associates and Dr. Inga Kish of Piedmont Emergency Medicine Associates will be examining student athletes on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. to help students complete this exam before sports practices begin.
