From staff reports

Lincolnton High School student Cassie Duncan is on her way to the Miss NC Teen USA competition.

Seventeen-year-old Duncan won the title of Miss Charlotte Teen USA Friday, May 30 and Saturday, May 31.

Duncan tied for interview and was the physical fitness winner in swim wear. She has trained with physical fitness trainer, Mike Mauney, in preparation for the event. The victory allows her to represent the open preliminary title this October when she travels to High Point for the state program.

Duncan, who hopes to pursue psychology in college, has served in Lincolnton High’s Key Club, student council, yearbook and newspaper staff.

Adrienne Perry won the Miss Charlotte USA portion of the competition. She and Duncan will advance to the Miss North Carolina event. Duncan was crowned by Katie Sparrow, the 2002 Teen winner.

While participating, she informed the judges that she would love to meet Kenny Chesney and that she felt the biggest problem facing her peers today is a “combination of jealousy and competition.” She added that her secret wish is “to become Miss Teen USA.”

Duncan is the fourth winner to be selected in the annual preliminary program. She will represent Lincolnton and the Charlotte title in the USA event.

Winners in High Point will then represent North Carolina in the national Miss USA and Miss Teen USA on NBC television in 2004.
