Denver native crowned Mrs. North Carolina

The night she was crowned, she celebrated her victory with a Pumpkin Center family get together.

Wendy Galle is the new Mrs. North Carolina.

It’s not as if she had nothing else to do.

Wendy Galle of Sherrills Ford was crowned Mrs. North Carolina Saturday at the Charlotte pageant. She will go on to compete in the Mrs. America Pageant in Honolulu.

Asthma Splashout offers family fun and education

April 26, 2002 - Children and their parents can dive into the subject of asthma in May at the YMCA.

The 2002 Asthma Splashout will be held May 11. Organizers hope to educate the public, and to have fun.

Jessica Talley, 11, takes a dip in the pool at the Lincoln County Family YMCA. Children participating in the upcoming 2002 Asthma Splashout will learn about their condition and enjoy the pool.

Competition honors writers

April 24, 2002 - The Lincoln Arts Council hosted an awards ceremony for winners of the 19th Annual Flo Robinson Literary Competition.

The event, held in the Timken Performance Hall of the Lincoln Cultural Center, was Thursday at 7 p.m.

Spring is blooming at East Lincoln High

April 19, 2002 - Spring is in full bloom at East Lincoln High School. And it’s for sale.

The school’s horticulture students are hosting their annual plant sale today through next week — Monday through Friday, as supplies last.

Which may not be long, according to Barry McKee, horticulture and agriculture science teacher at the school.

Andrew Nantz, Earle Wallace and Darrell Driver, juniors at East Lincoln High School, water and care for impatiens they helped grow in horticulture class. Students will man the greenhouse today and next week selling their product to the public.

Health Department offers kindergarten exams

April 19, 2002 - While students are sitting in classrooms dreaming about summer vacation, young preschoolers are already looking forward to the end of summer when their fun begins..

Walkers to hit the streets Saturday for MS

April 12, 2002 - Youth at Boger City United Methodist Church will honor two of their members this weekend.

More than 25 members of the church will walk for two women who can’t in Lincolnton’s first MS Walk.

Lincolnton Lions to make a clean sweep

April 10, 2002 - The Lincolnton Lions Club will make a clean sweep of the Lincolnton and Boger City with a broom sale.

Lions will sell brooms Friday and Saturday along Main St., Wal-Mart’s parking lot, and area shopping centers.

London Piano Duo perform Thursday

April 10, 2002 - The Lincoln County Concert Association will present The London Piano Duo Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Citizens Center.

And piano students in the area will get special treatment for the performance — free admission.

“We are trying to involve children and young people of the community,” says Adair Cantwell, association co-president.

Play captures life’s funny —and poignant — moments

April 8, 2002 - The Lincoln Theatre Guild’s production of “The Dining Room” gives audiences an opportunity to be flies on the wall — in 18 dining rooms.

Author A.R. Gurney’s play chronicles family life in America. And Lincoln’s actors capture the funny, tragic and bittersweet moments played out in dining rooms over the past century.

Leigh Allen Guth portrays a young girl celebrating her birthday in "The Dining Room," opening Thursday.

April 3, 2002 - CHERRYVILLE — A smash hit both off and on Broadway, A.R. Gurney’s “Love Letters” chronicles the lifelong relationship between a man and a woman solely through their correspondence.

Above, Tish Merrill plays dual roles in "Love Letters" - behind the scenes as director and on stage as Melissa Gardner. Below, Merrill is joined on stage by Henry Buckley as Andrew Makepeace Ladd in a scene from "Love Letters."  The tale of the lifelong romance will be performed Thursday, Friday and Saturday and Sunday.
