Little Theatre plans to revisit the ’70s

By DIANE TURBYFILL, LTN Staff Writer

February 7, 2003 - The Cherryville Little Theatre will celebrate its patrons, and the 70s, Saturday, Feb. 15.

Members of the community theater group will host their annual Patrons Party beginning at 8 p.m. at the Cherryville Country Club.

Dancing, drinks and a steak dinner are all part of the annual celebration.

“It’s just a lot of fun,” Director Dawn Whitworth says.

Whitworth directs the entertainment for the third year at the CLT. She says the fun and family atmosphere of the group keep her coming back.

“It’s not work. Everybody comes together and works so well together.”

The theme for this year’s performance is “The Show That Shagged Me — The 70s Revisited.”

While Whitworth says she doesn’t want to give away too much, she promises that the evening will be filled with outrageous music, costumes and skits.

“It’s going to be hysterical.”

The hilarity and outrageous comedy is what fills the house each year, Whitworth says.

The Cherryville Country Club comes alive with an audience of at least 200 people each year.

“I believe the residents of Cherryville enjoy seeing local performers,” says Whitworth. “It’s a good night of local entertainment.”

The audience may be large, but Whitworth — who is also the president of the CLT — says it’s not about the money. The ticket price is barely enough to cover the cost of the catering, costuming and facility rental.

“It’s an additional show for our patrons,” she says. “We do it for the cultural aspect.”

During the night of entertainment, a plaque will be presented. The Founder’s Award will be given to the volunteer who has excelled in the past year.

Tickets for the Patrons Party, “The Show That Shagged Me,” are $20 per person for patrons and $25 per person for non-patrons.

The night will include dancing, with music provided by Lincolnton’s John Barkley, dinner and entertainment.

The deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday.

Tickets may be purchased at Houser Drug in Cherryville.
