Physician brings experience to health department

Feb. 22, 2002 - Last December the Lincoln County Health Department gained more than 30 years of experience in just one day.

Dr. Donald L. Copeland, a 67-year-old retired physician, joined the department late last year, bringing new ideas and augmenting the department’s team of doctors, says Donna Norwood, adult services coordinator.

Dr. Donald L. Copeland has treated patients for more than 30 years. The retired physician is now bringing his years of experience to the patients at the Lincoln County Health Department.

Couple starts a life from a long distance romance

Feb. 13, 2002 - Writing letters has evolved into a whirlwind romance for one Lincolnton couple.

Newlyweds June Leroy, 68, and Jesse Leroy, 71, met as pen pals. Their long-distance friendship quickly developed and, within three months, they were wed.

June and Jesse Leroy enjoy even the smallest tasks together. The newlyweds, who met as pen pals, married after knowing each other only three months.

Black History Drama

Feb. 11, 2002 - The Lincoln Arts Council is hosting an exhibit featuring regional black artists in honor of Black History Month. The opening reception was held Sunday, and the pieces remain on display at the Lincoln Cultural Center, 403 E. Main St. Two of the works hanging in the gallery include "Marketing Girltalk" by Charles Williams (right) and "Ain't I A Woman" by Tiffany Capers.

Play to kick off Black History celebration

Feb. 1, 2002 - A family’s struggle to overcome abuse, neglect and addiction will be staged in Lincolnton.

Rev. Denise Surratt, 43, is the writer and director of the musical, “Window Pain, the Reflection,” to be performed by area actors and a choir Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Citizens Center.
