Simply Sketching

Family brings gifts and affection to the elderly

Kisses and warm wishes

January 17, 2003 - Raquel, Alexis and Rebekah Cespedes visit their grandparents twice a week — all eight of them.

The children visit Lincoln Nursing Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays with their mother, Iliana Gonzalez. They’ve been making the visits for more than a year.

Pansy Helms, a resident at Lincoln Nursing Center, gets a kiss and an apple pie from 5-year-old Alexis Cespedes. The youngster and her family visit the nursing home twice a week bringing warm wel-comes to their adopted grandparents.  (LTN photo by Jenny Walling)

January 17, 2003 - The Lincoln Arts Council 2002 Amateur Photography Competition had more than 50 entries.

Juror for the competition was Jenny Walling, photographer for the Lincoln Times-News.

Pam Peacock's "Pretty in Pink" won first place in the Peo-ple/Animal Life category.

January 22, 2003 - On Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2:30 p.m. New Providence Full Gospel Church prepared for a motorcade from the present church location to the site of the groundbreaking ceremony for their new church building..

Winter Fun Day

January 22, 2003 - Lincoln County students were out of school Monday for Martin Lu-ther King Day. The 4-H office offered children an alternative to sitting at home - Winter Fun Day. Students enjoyed making arts and crafts, eating lunch, and playing games. Stephanie Spittle, 7, painted a snowman clock. 4-H often offers activities for students when school is out. January 24, 2003 - Sounds of laughter, conversation and productivity echo through the loading area at Christian Ministry. It’s the sound of volunteers at work.

A special crew of volunteers have been cleaning, sorting food and packaging items for the Ministry for the last two weeks, a team from Salem Industries.

Lions collect glasses and hearing aids

January 31, 2003 - The Lions Clubs for the Lions Club International Recycle for Sight & Hearing Project are collecting eye glasses.

Throughout the year, Lincoln and Gaston County Lions Clubs are collecting useable eyeglasses and hearing aides. However, during the summer and fall season, they are making a concerted effort to educate the general public, medical community, church, and school groups about their need.
