Congregation breaks ground on new site
January 22, 2003 - On Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2:30 p.m. New Providence Full Gospel Church prepared for a motorcade from the present church location to the site of the groundbreaking
ceremony for their new church building.
The service began with the congregation singing “Lord I Just Want to Thank You,” followed by a scripture reading by Elder Preston Smith and prayer by Deacon
Gordon Robinson.
Trustee Chairman Thomas McSwain reminded the congregation that “Every good thing comes from God.”
Rev. Jimmy Floyd, General Contractor, encouraged the congregation “Not to stop here, this is only the beginning.”
Pastor and Founder, Bishop Eugene Brooks discussed the symbolism of breaking ground with eight shovels; “Seven Shovels to represent the completion” of one
phase and the eighth for the “Leap of Faith” the church has taken into a new beginning. Rev. Brooks concluded by saying “That work which God has started, He will continue to perform.”
Prophetess Shirley Brooks rendered a prayer to dedicate the property as Holy Ground set apart for the work of Christ followed by the actual ground breaking by
the Pastor, officers and ministers of the church.
The ceremony concluded with the congregation singing “We Are Blessed” and benediction by Elder William Brice.
New Providence Full Gospel Church was established Aug. 14, 1998 and originally held services at New Life Christian Fellowship Center on Sunday afternoons. They
adopted the motto “We Walk by Faith and Not by Sight” and moved to their current location at 326 N. Aspen St. on May 9, 1999.
The new church edifice will be located on George Brown Road off of Hwy. 182.
