Basic Home Maintenance Workshop: Taking Stock in Simple Home Repair
Jan. 4, 2002 - Where did that hole come from?
The faucet is leaking!
Where did that mold come from?
Most of us have these unsightly problems one time or another. It goes with the territory when living in a home.
Many of us ignore it because we think we are tool illiterate and can’t program even the VCR.
In many of my housing programs that I teach, I am amazed at how many folks feel uncomfortable at simple home maintenance. The wide-eyed terror I see on
their faces when they tell me that they have never fixed a leaking toilet or faucet or repaired a hole in their walls.
Seems to me that folks need to know how to do simple home repairs so those little boo-boos don’t turn into uncontrollable, call the repairman boo-boos.
The Basic Home Maintenance Workshop-Taking Stock in Simple Home Repair was designed with the homeowner in mind.
This workshop is geared for those who feel like they have no clue of how to begin fixing those simple repair jobs around the home. It will teach you about energy
conservation, repairing drywall, simple plumbing procedures, water control around your home, and basic landscaping.
A hands-on approach will be used so don’t think you will leave the class without getting a little practice in before you go home.
“It was a very wonderful and informative workshop,” said Judy Harkey, a student of the First Basic Home Maintenance Workshop. “The hands-on experience was
enough alone to make me feel competent to tackle different home projects. Because of the confidence and information that I got from the workshop, my daughter and I tackled replacing the flushing components of my
mother’s toilet.”
The Basic Home Maintenance Workshop-Taking Stock in Simple Home Repair will be held at the Lincoln County Senior Center in Room 319. The cost of the total
workshop is $10.
This workshop will be four weeks long and will begin this month. Mark your calendars for Jan. 17, 24, 31 and Feb. 7 from 6:30 to 8:30 nightly.
