Susie Tesseneer

SHELBY — Susie Pruitt Tesseneer, 89, formerly of Lattimore, died Dec. 22, 2003. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Stamey Funeral Home. Burial followed in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Born in Burke County, she was a homemaker and a member of Big Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Colman Tesseneer of Shelby and Yates Tesseneer Jr. of Lattimore; five daughters, Susan Tesseneer of Casar, Bessie White of New House, Bright Carroll of Lincolnton, Dorcus Ledford and Patsy Swink both of Shelby; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pauline Herman

VIRGINIA — Pauline H. Herman, 89, died Dec. 22, 2003. A homecoming and interment service will be at 2 p.m. today at Catawba Memorial Park in the mausoleum chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include one son, Bobby Houser of Yorktown, Va.; two brothers, Clyde Houser of Trussville, Ala. and Thomas Houser of Vale; two granddaughters, Mary Mabe and Petra Rider; one great-granddaughter and one great great-granddaughter.

Johnsie Mull

Johnsie Marie Burgess Mull, 80, of 1525 Jessica Ann Road, died Dec. 23, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Southside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Born in Lincoln County, she worked for JP Stevens.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Lineberger of Lincolnton; two sisters, Edith McCorkle and Mamie Saunders both of Lincolnton; two step-grandchildren, Dana Moses and John Lineberger II and three step-granddaughters.

Lillian Sellers

CHERRYVILLE — Lillian Jenkins Sellers, 83, of 7202 Dallas/Cherryville Hwy., died Dec. 23, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church.

Born in Gaston County, she a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Ralph Sellers of Cherryville; three daughters, Glenda Jackson and Brenda Laws both of Cherryville and Debbie Presson of Mint Hill; one brother, Norman Jenkins of Bessemer City; one sister, Joyce Dunn of Gaffney, SC; eight grandchildren, Jordan Sellers, Katie Sellers, Lisa Hancock, Todd Jackson, Jonathan Presson, Jeremy Presson, Jamie Roane and Traci Hovis and five great-grandchildren.

Polly Shuford

NEWTON — Alice Bernice “Polly” Shuford, 89, of 909 E. 20th St., died Dec. 23, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Born in Catawba County, she was retired from Kayser Roth Hosiery Mill and was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one son, Johnny Shuford of Hildebran; two daughters, Helen Buchanan of Hildebran and Marian Abernathy of Maiden; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Minnie McCall

CORNELIUS — Minnie Evelyn McCall, 86, died Dec. 24, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Chapel at Raymer Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

She was born in Catawba County.

Survivors include one sister, Audrey Rudisill of Iron Station.

Eloise Reinhardt

NEWTON — Eloise Bonnie Morgan Reinhardt, 79, of 2391 Hillside Drive, died Dec. 24, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Westside Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. today at the church.

Born in Lincoln County, she was formerly employed by Regal Manufacturing.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Reinhardt of the home; three sons, Charles Reinhardt of Denver, Jerry Reinhardt of Maiden and Wayne Reinhardt of Newton; two daughters, Hazel Walker of Maiden and Joyce Shuler of Claremont and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Curtis Matney

NEWTON — Curtis Clifford Matney, 60, of 1220 Clarks Creek Circle, died Dec. 24, 2003. Funeral services and burial will be held in Honaker, Va. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at Burke Mortuary in Maiden.

Born in Grundy, Va., he was a member of UMWA.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Matney of the home; three daughters, Amy Matney of the home; Cora Pelow of Catawaba and Betty Sue Hart of Honaker, Va.; two grandsons, Justin Hubbard and Tyler Hart; three granddaughters, Jessica Hubbard, Ciara Pelow and Tabitha Hart; three brothers, Ralph Matney of Statesville, Arnold Matney of Grundy, Va. and James Matney of Honaker, Va. and one sister, Pinkie Varney of Chicago, Ill.

Eva Heafner

Eva Dellinger Heafner, 81, of 3072 Landers Church Road, died Dec. 24, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Crouse United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Antioch Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, John Heafner of the home; one son, Johnny Heafner of Orlando, Fla.; one daughter, Rita Smith of Lincolnton; one brother, Berl Dellinger of Lincolnton; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

ASHEVILLE — Sylvia Heard Long, 66, of 1 Miller St., Apt. 129, died Dec. 25, 2003.

Bryan Fleenor

Bryan Richard Fleenor, 55, of 1052 Curve View Road, died Dec. 25, 2003. Funeral arrangements will be announced later at Warlick Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Taylor Fleenor; two daughters, Allyson Hill of Mooresville and Alicia Fleenor of Charlotte; mother, Phyllis Fleenor of Huntersville; one brother, Joe Fleenor of Denver; two sisters, Kathy Clemmer of Denver and Lynn White of Wake Forest; two granddaughters, Karolyne Hill and Jessica Atkinson and one grandson, Konnor Hill.

Jim Davis

MAIDEN — James Atwell “Jim” Davis, 67, of W. Main St., died Dec. 25, 2003. A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Martins Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Born in Catawba County, he was the owner of Davis Auto Sales and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Davis of the home; three daughters, Debbie Hamilton of Ardmore, Okla., Julia Lemmons of Marietta, Okla. and Renee Munday of Maiden; father, Roy Davis of Maiden; three sisters, Kay Wilson of Maiden, Jewell Perkins of Charleston, SC and Dianne Propst of Hickory; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Joyce Ann Helms Bryant, 53, of River Road, died Dec. 24, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at EF Drum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Reanus Bryant of the home; two sons, Ronald Hoyle of Crouse and Clay Hoyle of Lincolnton; three brothers, Gordon Helms of Dallas, Alfred Helms of Lincolnton and Fred Helms of Maiden; two sisters, Hazel Benton of Lincolnton and Rosa Cohen of Vale and three grandchildren.

Mildred Bradshaw

IRON STATION — Mildred Bradshaw, 79, of Halite Lane, died Dec. 26, 2003.

Thurman Wood

Thurman Lee Wood Jr., 52, of 3322 Landers Chapel Church Road, died Dec. 23, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Born in Rutherford County, he worked in the textile industry.

Survivors include one son, Danny Wood of Lincolnton; one daughter, Wendy Wood of the home; one brother, Wayne Wood of Claremont; two sisters, Doris Eurey of Iron Station and Mary Powell of Lincolnton and one grandson, Christopher Wood.

Tiburcia Starritt

Tiburcia A. Starritt, 35, of 862 Clark’s Creek Road, died Dec. 23, 2003.

Thomas Ward

Thomas Hal Ward, 76, of Hartsoe Road, died Dec. 24, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. A DAV graveside service will follow in Bethphage Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was retired from the U.S. Navy as Chief Petty Officer, a retired member of Howards Creek Fire Department and employed by Geymont’s Construction.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hartsoe Ward of the home; one granddaughter, Jackie Smith of Lincolnton; one great-grandson and one half-brother, David Ritchie of Fla.
