Charlie Childs

NEWTON — Charles William “Charlie” Childs Sr., 79, of 102 Leonard Avenue, died Dec. 20, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a retired assistant manager at Leslie Faye, a member of First United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts of America volunteer and a WWII Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Crowell Childs of the home; one son, Bill Childs of Newton; two sisters, Annete Lander of La Jolla, Calif. and Ardis Baker of Atlanta, Ga. and one grandson, Trey Childs.

Charles Reynolds

CHARLOTTE — Charles Vallee Reynolds, 82, of 701 Pritchard St., died Dec. 18, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Leonard’s Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Gaston County, he was a machine installer in the manufacturing industry.

Survivors include three brothers, Jimmy Reynolds of Charlotte, Jerry Reynolds of Crouse and Johnny Reynolds of Cherryville and one sister, Dolly Black of Cherryville.

 

Tony Goins

IRON STATION — Anthony “Tony” Goins Jr., 31, of 441 Chase Drive, died Dec. 19, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was employed by Delta Apparel.

Survivors include his wife, Kasi Goins of the home; one son, Dillon Goins of the home; one daughter, Angela Goins of the home; parents, Anthony Goins Sr. of Maiden and Catherine Goins of Iron Station; one brother, Roger Goins of Stanley and two sisters, Kimberly Goins of Lowell and Charlene Chavez of Spartanburg, SC.

A memorial fund has been set up through Bank of America for his children.

 

Kathleen Byers

Kathleen McLoud Byers, 92, of Lincolnton, died Dec. 20, 2003. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Interment followed in St. Luke’s Episcopal Cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, she was an active member of the Women’s Missionary Society and active in the Lincoln County Council on Aging.

Survivors include one son Lt. Col. Retired Rodney Byers of Sneads Ferry; one daughter, Joyce Maguire of Charlotte; one sister, Billie Waller of Kinston; seven grandchildren, Mike Byers, Joan Taylor, Katrina Cantler, Leslie Byers, Clark Hipp, Christie Earl and Craig Hipp.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Main St., Lincolnton, NC 28092 or Huntersville Oaks Nursing Home, 13001 Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078.

Jeff Abee

NEWTON — Jeff Allen Abee, 34, of 2496 Springdale Drive, died Dec. 21, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Tuesday at Burke Mortuary.

He was born in Catawba County.

Survivors include his wife, Sally Abee of the home; one son, William Harkey Jr. of Newton; two daughters, Kara Abee and Tiffany Abee both of the home; parents, Allen and Nancy Abee of Hickory; one sister, Pamela Church of Hickory and one grandchild, Brianna Harkey.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.

 

Martha Wilkinson

NEWTON — Martha Ann Tickle Wilkinson, 76, of Newton, died Dec. 20, 2003. A service to celebrate her life will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fairfield United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Survivors include one daughter, Lynn Southern of Charlotte and Peter Wilkinson of Huntersville; five grandchildren, Ed Southern, Drew Southern, Anna Southern, Cameron Wilkinson and Lauren Wilkinson and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, Multiple Sclerosis Society or the charity of donor’s choice.

Wilbur Thompson

Wilbur Leo Thompson Jr., 30, of Banyon Lane, died Dec. 19, 2003. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.

Born in Lincoln County, he worked in the furniture manufacturing industry.

Survivors include his father, Wilbur Thompson Sr. of Lincolnton; two brothers, Stephen Thompson and Raymond Thompson both of Lincolnton; one sister, Carlinda Cook of Lincolnton; one step-brother, Brandon Powell of Charlotte; one step-sister, Tiffany Powell of Newton; step-mother, Sherrie Thompson of Lincolnton; paternal grandfather, Tommy Thompson of Gastonia and paternal step-grandmother, Marcella Jones of Cherryville.

 

Allie Abernathy

STANLEY — Allie Sue Heafner Abernathy, 77, of 514 Old Mt. Holly Road, died Dec. 20, 2003. Funeral services will be at 7:30 tonight at Carothers Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 tonight at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Faith Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Timothy Abernathy of Stanley; one daughter, Wanda Banks of Stanley; three sisters, Bernice McAlister and Jessie Bradshaw both of Stanley and Betty Houser of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Kristy Mize, Heather Abernathy, Mark Banks and Lynn Johnston and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Faith Baptist Church Bus Fund, 5194 Old Plank Road, Iron Station, NC 28080.

 

Rosa Peeler

SHELBY — Rosa Lee Jones Peeler, 81, of 412 Dover St., died Dec. 19, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

 

Patricia Burch

Patricia Jones Burch, 63, of 1169 Buffalo Shoals Road, died Dec. 19, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Providence Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a retired teacher from the Lincoln County School System and a member of Moore’s Chapel AME Zion Church.

Survivors include one son, Arthur Burch of Lincolnton.

Ebony & White’s Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

 

Kathleen Withers

Kathleen Schronce Withers, 88, of 3236 Maiden Hwy., died Dec. 18, 2003. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at McKendree United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, she worked in the textile industry.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Bonnie Peeler

Bonnie Stallings Peeler, 93, of Cardinal Care, formerly of Carolina Mill Circle, died Dec. 22, 2003.

Arrangements are incomplete at EF Drum Funeral Home.
