M. McCaslin

Margaret Estelle Weaver McCaslin, 85, of 208 Wellington Drive, died Dec. 16, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at McKendree United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Friday at the church.

Born in Catawba County, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include three daughters, Agnes Cline, Evelyn Cochrane and JoAnne Potts all of Lincolnton; one sister, Marvelle Jones of Litchfield, Ohio; four grandchildren, Mitch Cline, Casey Potts, Kristi Potts and Brandee Potts and two great-grandchildren.

John Buff

CLAREMONT — John Davis Buff, 62, of 1125 Shiloh Road, died Dec. 17, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mathis Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at Burke Mortuary in Newton.

Born in Catawba County, he was retired from the textile industry.

Survivors include one son, John Buff Jr. of Claremont; one daughter, Amy Moser of Catawba; five brothers, Jessie Buff, Tommy Buff, Charles Buff, Bobby Buff and Jimmie Buff all of Catawba; three grandsons, Justin Moser, Trent Moser and Corey Buff and one granddaughter, Brittany Buff.

Margaret Spruell

CONOVER — Margaret Jane Evelyn Rink Spruell, 68, of 1048 W. Poplar, died Dec. 18, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Covenant Christian Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Born in Catawba County, she was a retired Lab Technician from Pantasoe and a member of the missionary.

Survivors include her husband, Grady Spruell Jr. of the home; two sons, Alex Spruell and Grady Spruell II both of Conover; one daughter, Benita Solomon of Claremont; two brothers, James Rink of Alta Olma, Calif. and Lee Rink of Newton; five sisters, Harriet Patterson of Granite Falls, Mary Johnson and Vetta Rink both of Washington, DC, Jessie Oglesby and Valerie Washington both of Hickory and three grandchildren.

Ebony & White’s Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

 

Robert Ford

Robert Collins Ford Sr., 81, of Cardinal Care, died Dec. 18, 2003. A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Warlick Funeral Home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a retired car salesman and a WWII U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Ford Jr. of Denver and Richard Ford of Hickory; one daughter, Mary Justice of Charleston, SC; one step-son, Stan Smith of Hickory and five grandchildren.

Janie Wilson

STANLEY — Janie Mae Hager Wilson, 87, of 7201 Sifford Road, died Dec. 18, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hills Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at Hills Chapel United Methodist Family Life Center.

She was born in Lincoln County.

Survivors include one son, Jimmy Wilson of Lowesville; three daughters, Jamie McCurry of Sherrills Ford, Joy Reep of Maiden and Joellen Craig of Walhalla, SC; one brother, Erson Hager of Pilot Knob; four sisters, Velma Nixon of Triangle, Hattie Cobb of Lucia, Janet Howie of Lowesville and Norrie Merritt of Cincinnati, Ohio; five grandchildren, Danny Reep, Stephanie Boggs, Summer Wilson, Dana McCurry, Rowdy Wilson and Chris Craig and six great-grandchildren.

Lillian Rudisill

Lillian Vine Sain Rudisill, 89, of Lincoln Nursing Center, died Dec. 18, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Southside Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Born in Lincoln County, she was self-employed at an in home caretaker.

Survivors include four daughters, Jean Carpenter, Joyce Icard, Earleesn Johnson and Marilyn Auton all of Lincolnton; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Bobby Abrams

Edgar Barber “Bobby” Abrams, 57, of Lincolnton, died Dec. 18, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 until 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Born in Anderson County, SC, he was retired from Charlotte Operations Framatome, ANP and Duke Power.

Survivors include his wife, Alice McConnell Abrams of Lincolnton; one son, Mac Abrams of Washington, DC and one daughter, Alice Abrams of Lincolnton.

Ruth Huffman

MAIDEN — Ruth Bridges Huffman, 81, died Dec. 19, 2003.

Arrangements are incomplete at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home.

 

Darren Cogdill

Darren Eugene Cogdill, 18, of 780 Pettus Lane, died Dec. 18, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was employed as a landscaper.

Survivors include his parents, JD Cogdill Jr. and Angela Cogdill of the home; one sister, April Cogdill of the home; paternal grandparents, JD Cogdill Sr. and Edna Cogdill of Lincolnton; maternal grandparents, Neal and Ruth Coakley of Delrio, Tenn. and paternal great-grandmother, Worker Cashion of Delrio, Tenn.
