James Bennett

James Michael Bennett, 61, of 410 Clayton Circle, died Nov. 27, 2003.

He was born in Ft. Meyers, Fla.

Survivors include one son, James Bennett, II of Lincolnton; one daughter, Julia Rose of Lincolnton; one sister, Tina Greene of New Bern and two grandchildren, Matthew Woodruff and Amanda Woodruff.

No services are scheduled.

James Abernethy

James Robert Abernethy, 60, of 198 Horseshoe Lake Road, died Nov. 28, 2003. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday at Salem Lutheran Church, where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, he was employed by Carolina Mills.

Survivors include his wife, Vickie Abernethy of the home; one son, Scott Abernethy of Durham; two daughters, Cassie Bracey and Jamie Abernethy both of Lincolnton; two sisters, Ann Jenkins of Lincolnton and Kay Houser of Vale and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar St., Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Larry Reynolds

Larry Gene Reynolds, 60, of 2219 Catawba Heights Road, died Nov. 28, 2003. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at Lenoard’s Ford Baptist Church. Burial followed in St. Marks Cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, he was employed by the Heating and Air Conditioning industry.

Survivors include two sons, Scott Reynolds and Rick Reynolds both of Lincolnton; one daughter, Deborah Gilmore of Crouse; four brothers, JP Reynolds and Paul Reynolds both of Lincolnton, Calvin Reynolds of Maiden and Gary Reynolds of Vale; one sister, Margaret Ingle of Lincolnton; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Warlick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mattie Deal

SHELBY — Mattie Sue Deal, 64, of 407 Highland Avenue, died Nov. 28, 2003.

Arrangements are incomplete at Enloe Mortuary.

Marie Byers

Marie Reep Shultz Byers, 86, of 3752 Harmon Road, died Nov. 28, 2003. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at Lincolnton Church of God. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Born in Gaston County, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include five sons, Keith Byers, of Iron Station, Robert Byers Jr. of Denver, Steve Shultz, Dwight Shultz and Roy Shultz all of Lincolnton; five daughters, Reba Buff of Crouse, Dorothy Hendrick of Maiden, Rita Rhyne, Vivian Taylor and Edna Spencer all of Lincolnton; 25 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Anthony Holden

STANLEY — Anthony Dale Holden, 20, of 531 Jones St., died Nov. 28, 2003. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Born in Gaston County, he worked as a residential electrician.

Survivors include his parents, Jeffery and Evelyn Holden of Stanley; two brothers, Mathew Holden of Stanley and Jason Harrelson of Gastonia; paternal grandmother, Jenna Holden of Stanley and maternal grandmother, Eva Weathers of Neb.

Rosa Woods

SHELBY — Rosa Lee Smith Woods, 73, of 1113-A Buffalo St., died Nov. 29, 2003.

Arrangements are incomplete at Enloe Mortuary.

Kenneth Baker

Kenneth Dale Baker, 75, of 507 High Shoals Road, died Nov. 30, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Burial will be held at a later date in Bridgeton, NJ. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warlick Funeral Home.

He was a real estate broker with Craig Gates Realty.

Survivors include his wife, D.V. “Jinny” Baker of the home; three daughters, Dorcas Baker of Providence, RI, Alyson Allen of Mogadcre, Ohio and Jo Ellen Burgess of Okinawa, Japan; six grandchildren, Rachel Burgess, Kenneth Burgess, Ruth Burgess, Jocelyn Allen, Carolyn Allen and Melissa Allen.

Marilyn Homesley

CHERRYVILLE — Marilyn Alice Newman Homesley, 74, of 231 Milo Neal Road, died Nov. 30, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Born in Detroit, Mich., she worked for the FBI, FAA, Commerce Department and the U.S. Airforce.

Survivors include her husband, Ray Homesley of the home; two sons, Craig Homesley of Westminster, Md. and Kent Homesley of Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Carolyn Walden and Vicki Kirby; mother, Grace Newman of Columbia, Mo. andeight grandchildren, Chad Walden, Courtney Walden Sarah Kirby, Joel Kirby, Ian Kirby, Ethan Homesley, Ellen Homesley and Charlene Homesley.

Sarah Yoder

Sarah Helen Yoder, 93, of Lincolnton, died Nov. 29, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a teacher and retired supervisor in the local schools.

Survivors include one sister, Katherine Leopold of Boynton Beach, Fla. and one brother, Robert Yoder of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

Elmer Griffey

MAIDEN — Elmer Clay Griffey, 86, of 10 E. Holly St., died Dec. 1, 2003.

Arrangements are incomplete at Burke Mortuary in Maiden.

Michael Cook

CROUSE — Michael Eugene Cook, 52, of 2398 Swanson Road, died Nov. 29, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at EF Drum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was employed by ER Carpenter as a maintenance supervisor, a veteran of the Vietnam War and attended Temple Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Cook of the home and two daughters, Lindsi Cook and Lori Cook both of the home.

Ronald Caldwell

DENVER — Ronald Craig Caldwell, 45, of 2785 McBallard Road, died Nov. 29, 2003. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel at Ebony and White’s Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the home of his mother, 7070 Campground Road.

Born in Iredell County, he was a member of Brevard Chapel United Methodist Church and was employed as a dietitian.

Survivors include one daughter, Narissa Osborne of the home; mother, Virginia Caldwell of Denver; one brother, Sean Caldwell of Jacksonville, Fla. and fiance, Agnes Osborne of the home.
