Paul Willis

LAWNDALE — Paul Willis, 87, of 420 Eastridge Drive, died Nov. 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in Cleveland County, he was retired from Drexel Furniture Company and a self-employed farmer.

Survivors include two sons, Rev. Donald Willis of Vale and Roger Willis of Raleigh; one daughter, Mary Lee Jones of Barboursville, W. Va.; one brother, Dickson Willis of Shelby; one sister, Lilly Lee of Lawndale; six grandchildren, Catherine White, Phillip Willis, Dan Jones III, Michael Jones, Ryan Willis and Ian Willis and three great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, c/o Gary Tillman, 6443 Fallston Road, Lawndale, NC 28090 or Alzheimers National Association, 919 N. Michigan Avenue, Chicago, Ill. 60611.

Edith Hopper

SHELBY — Edith Eleanor Pass Hopper, 82, of 402 Hudson St., died Nov. 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Durham United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

 

Vance Willis

VALE — Vance Lenore Willis, 89, of 7652 Bud Davis Road, died Nov. 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a retired mechanic from Adam Millis Hosiery Mill and a retired farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy H. Willis of the home; two sons, Dr. Dean Willis of Jacksonville, Fla. and Dr. Joe Willis of Florence, NJ; four daughters, Kay Mosteller and Sue Gilbert both of Lincolnton, Ann Hopper of Cramerton and Jan Lucas of Benson; one brother, Charles Willis of Vale; two sisters, Vangie Reep of Charlotte and Marie Houser of Hickory; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Melvin Moses

CONOVER — Melvin Marshal Moses, 72, of 204 Mooreland Drive NE, died Nov. 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Burke Mortuary in Newton. Burial will follow in Mays Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Born in Catawba County, he was an Investment Planner and a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Parker Moses of the home; one son, David Moses of Taylorsville; one step-daughter, Dora Travis of Newton; one sister, Hazel DeMent of Conover; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Frances Howard

Frances Helen Howard, 79, of 121 Woodvale Circle, died Nov. 11, 2003. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Boger City United Methodist Church, where she a member. The family will receive friends in the church Narthex following the service.

Born in Yonkers, NY, she was a Girl Scout Leader, volunteered for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile, Gamble Hospital, Lincoln County Hospital, Lincoln County Chapter of the NC Symphony and Community Concerts Association.

Survivors include her husband, T. Herman Howard of the home; two sons, Thomas Howard, II of Lincolnton and Timothy Choulat of Jacksonville, Fla.; two daughters, Pamela Lutin of Lincolnton and Christine Ausband of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Lincoln County Chapter of American Red Cross, PO Box 1838, Lincolnton, NC 28093.

Emily Moore

Emily Jane Moore, 56, died Nov. 11, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sandy Run Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

She was born in Cleveland County.

Survivors include her mother, Aileen Holder Moore of Boiling Springs; one brother, Danny Williams of Mooresboro and four sisters, JoAnn Putnam, and Vicky Barnette both of Shelby, Barbara Fitch of Mooresboro and Peggy Moore of Kinston.

V. Thompson

DALLAS — Virginia Thompson, 78, of 1021 Alexis High Shoals Road, died Nov. 7, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today in the chapel at Ebony and White’s Funeral Service. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the chapel.

Born in Gaston County, she was a member of Fancy Hill Baptist Church and retired from McBess.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Thompson of York, Pa. and Melvin Thompson of the home; four daughters, Connie Turner, Darlene Thompson, Ruby Henry all of Gastonia and Cathy Thompson of Dallas; one sister, Annie Bynum of Iron Station; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Bo Moss

CHERRYVILLE — Floyd “Bo” Barnard Moss Jr., 42, of 302 Clayton St., died Nov. 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday at Greene Funeral Service South Chapel. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

He was born in Gaston County.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Shirley and James McPeters of Cramerton; two brohters, Scott Moss of Alexis and Michael Moss of Cherryville and two sisters, Donna Crowthers of Stanley and Cathy Curtis of Cherryville.
