Eleanor Bess

CHERRYVILLE — Eleanor Leonhardt Bess, 84, of 111 Harrison Road, died Nov. 6, 2003. Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Women’s Circle at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include, two daughters, Gail Beam and Margaret Buff both of Cherryville; one sister, Nell Wagner of Charlotte; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Bess Chapel United Methodist Church, 2741 NC Hwy. 274, Cherryville, NC 28021 or Hospice of Gaston County, PO Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28053.

Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

Leonard Allen

Leonard “Peach” Leroy Allen, 79, of, 2266 Tin Mine Road, died Nov. 7, 2003. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Founders Chapel of McLean Funeral Directors. Burial followed in Gaston Memorial Park.

Born in Gaston County, he was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, retired from the textile industry and a member of Anthony Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Allen of Lincolnton and Ricky Allen of Cherryville; one daughter, Paula Bradshaw of Lexington, Ky.; three brothers, Ken Allen, Lewis Allen and Miles Allen all of Gastonia; one sister, Etta Bruce of Gastonia; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Anthony Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 281 Hephzibah Church Road, Crouse, NC 28033.

 

Edward Bennick

Edward Theodore “Ted” Bennick Jr., 66, of 354 Caprice Circle, died Nov. 8, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Covenant Bible Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 p.m. today at the church.

Born in Mecklenburg County, he was the owner of Kebenhaus, Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Keener Bennick of the home; two sons, Edward Bennick of Kings Mountain and Jason Bennick of Calif.; three daughters, Denise Lapides of Annapolis, Md., Darlene Gallagher of Dunedin, Fla. and Mary Anne Bennick of Asheville; one sister, Sandra Faulkner of Charlotte and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar St., Lincolnton, NC 28092 or Covenant Bible Church.

 

John Helms

John Thomas Helms Jr., 54, formerly of Lincolnton, died Nov. 8, 2003. A graveside service was held Sunday at the Hester Family Cemetery.

Born in Gaston County, he was a former textile employee.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Helms of the home; one son, John Helms of Lincolnton; one daughter, Tina Mullins of Lincolnton; two brothers, Howard Helms and Clyde Helms both of Lincolnton; two sisters, Judy Avery of Alexis and Linda Gainey of Lincolnton and three grandchildren, Ronnie Thompson, Callie Thompson and Landan Mullins.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 107 N. Cedar St., Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Warlick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

 

James Sheppard

James F. Sheppard, 77, of 2559 Crystal Court, died Nov. 7, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. the family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Born in Orange County, NY, he was retired from Mohican Mills, Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Schilling Sheppard of the home; two daughters, Karen Sheppard of Cornelius and Kim Hoffman of Lincolnton and four grandchildren, Charity Hoffman, Brady Hoffman IV, Chad Hoffman and Kelly Hoffman.

Joan Biltcliff

CHERRYVILLE — Joan Campbell Biltcliff, 63, of 117 Gold St., died Nov. 7, 2003. A graveside memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

Born in Cook County, Ill., she was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Ronnie Campbell of Cherryville; one daughter, Cheryl Goode of Cherryville; two step-daughters, Vicki Brake and Tracy Wood both of Cherryville; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to charity of donor’s choice.

Michael Beam

CHAPEL HILLL — Michael Seth Beam Jr., 78, died Nov. 6, 2003. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Hollybrook Cemetery.

Born in Albemarle, he worked in an auto export business and real estate.

Survivors include one son, Michael Beam III and two grandchildren, Caroline Beam and Michael Beam.

Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

Teresa Painter

MAIDEN — Teresa Rhodes Painter, 45, of 109 N. 3rd Avenue, died Nov. 9, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witnesses in Newton. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Burke Mortuary in Maiden.

She was born in Lincoln County.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Painter of the home; two sons, Michael Painter Jr. of Lincolnton and Scotty Painter of Maiden; one daughter, Jackie Lowery of Maiden; her parents, Ralph and Arbedella Rhodes of Lincolnton and five brothers, Gerald Rhodes, Gary Rhodes, Jeff Rhodes, Mike Rhodes and Sammy Rhodes all of Lincolnton.

Memorials may be made to Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1403 S. NC 16 Hwy., Newton, NC 28658.

 

Frank Armstrong

Frank Alexander Armstrong, 66, of Lincolnton, died Nov. 9, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Born in Gaston County, he worked in the furniture company.

Survivors include one brother, Joe Armstrong of Lincolnton and two sisters, Becky Ingle of Lincolnton and Margie Armstrong of Fallston.

 

V. Thompson

DALLAS — Virginia Thompson, 78, of 1021 Alexis High Shoals Road, died Nov. 7, 2003. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. in the chapel at Ebony and White’s Funeral Service. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the chapel.

Born in Gaston County, she was a member of Fancy Hill Baptist Church and retired from McBess.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Thompson of York, Pa. and Melvin Thompson of the home; four daughters, Connie Turner, Darlene Thompson, Ruby Henry all of Gastonia and Cathy Thompson of Dallas; one sister, Annie Bynum of Iron Station; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild.
