Jim Hahn
NEWTON — James “Jim” Russell Hahn, 78, of 207 West Herman St., died Oct. 21, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Burke
Mortuary. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery.
He was born in Catawba County.
Survivors include two sons, Andy Hahn of Conover and Jamey Hahn of Newton; one brother, Joe Hahn of Maiden and four grandchildren,
Mickie Drum, Ryan Hahn, Candace Hahn and Dawson Hahn.

Magnolia Little
VIRGINIA — Magnolia “Mama Shug” Little, 71, of 2229 Dryburg Road formerly of Cherryville, died Oct. 19, 2003. Funeral services will
be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Ebony & White’s Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Cherryville Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the chapel.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a retired custodian form the Gaston County School System and a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, William H. Curry of Grover; one daughter, Fannie Smith of Scottsburg, Va.; step-mother, Creola Giles of
Gastonia; three step-brothers, Bobby Giles of Gastonia, Rev. Tony Giles of Cherryville and Billy Giles of Shelby; two step-sisters, Carolyn Giles of Gastonia and Shirley Giles of Baltimore, Md.; five grandchildren
and three great grandchildren.
Robert Helms
HICKORY — Robert Lee Helms, 68, of 21st St. Drive SE, died Oct. 22, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Drum
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was previously employed by Classic Leather and Carolina Mills and a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Margie Sligh of Newberry, SC, Cathy Blackburn of Lincolnton, Betty Haskett of Conover and Lilly
Robinson of Claremont; three sisters, Mae Wilkinson and Mary Burnes both of Vale and Emma Carpenter of Hickory; three brothers, Dorce Helms of Vale, Pinky Helms and Willie Helms both of Lincolnton; nine
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Bonnie Hovis
SALISBURY — Bonnie Jean Casner Hovis, 75, died Oct. 23, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Forest Lawn
Cemetery.
Born in Cumberland County, she was a member of Philadelphia Lutheran Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Rev. Dr. Marcus Hovis, III of Salisbury; one daughter, Bonita Voight of Charleston, SC; three brothers,
Jerome Casner of Texas, Raymond Casner of Monroe and Leonard Casner of Salisbury; one sister, Doris Walker of Indianapolis, Ind. and one granddaughter.

MAIDEN — Coy Auton, 90, of 913 E. Boyd St., died Oct. 23, 2003.

Saturday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Born in Catawba County, he was a member of North Newton Baptist Church and American Legion Post 16.
Survivors include two sons, James Bentley Jr. of Hickory and John Bentley of Conover; three daughters, Dianne Davidson of Conover,
Janice Wellmon of Asheville and Aleta Barnes of Abbeville; one sister, Lola Wilson of Newton and four grandchildren, James Bentley III, Heather Bentley, Brian Barnes and Kara Bentley.
