Fred Williams

MAIDEN — Fred Dwight Williams, 88, of 525 East Boyd St., died Oct. 17, 2003. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, where he was a member and a deacon. Burial followed in Maiden City Cemetery.

Born in Catawba County, he was a member of Masonic Lodge 592, the Eastern Star and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Eulalah Williams of the home; two sons, Douglas Williams of Lincolnton and Ronnie Williams of Maiden; two brothers, Dennis Williams and Paul Williams both of Maiden; six sisters, Leoda Hicks and Edna Sigmon both of Maiden, Ethel Caldwell of Newton, Sylvia Avery of Mt. Holly, Rachael Beal and Christine Griggs both of Lincolnton; three grandsons, Lance Williams, David Williams and Jeremy Williams; one granddaughter, Heather Perry and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 50 East Main St., Maiden, NC 28650.

Burke Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

 

Ruth Zalewski

Ruth Anita Westenfelder, 67, of Lincolnton, died Oct. 16, 2003. Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Bass-Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Born in Michigan, she was a member of Victory Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Zalewski of Lincolnton; two daughters; two sons; two step-daughters; three sisters; one step-brother; 10 grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.

Robert Hurley

CHERRYVILLE — Robert Paul Hurley, 78, of 202 N. Jacob St., died Oct. 18, 2003. A private burial services was held at Hollybrook Cemetery Sunday.

He was a WWII U.S. Navy veteran and a self-employed maintenance worker.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Rick Beers of Vicksburg, Mich. and Mrs. Daniel Featherstone Jr. of Blowing Rock; two brothers, Tom Hurley of Newton and Bill Hurley of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Warlick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Lou Ann Hester

CROUSE — Lou Ann Reynolds Hester, 50, of 2661 Hallman Dr., died Oct. 18, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

She was a cook at the Ranch House.

Survivors include her husband, Berlie Hester of the home; two daughters, Cynthia Hester of Lincolnton and Tamatha Singletary of Crouse; her mother, Loretta Reynolds of High Shoals; three brothers, Larry Reynolds of Crouse, Rick Reynolds of High Shoals and Mike Reynolds of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Barbara Schrum of Lincolnton and Jackqueline Castro of Cherryville; five grandchildren, Tearsha Hester, Brocklyn Hester, Bridget Hester, Justin Rojo and Jacob Singletary.

 

Myrtle Yancey

NEWTON — Myrtle Estelle Yancey, 87, of 645 E. 1st St., died Oct. 17, 2003. Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at Burke Mortuary Chapel. Burial followed in Eastview Cemetery.

Survivors include three sons, Billy Yancey of Newton, Jimmy Yancey and Johnny Yancey both of Maiden; one daughter, Frances Helms of Newton; two brothers, William Weaver of Maiden and Thomas Weaver of Newton; one sister, Della Withers of Newton; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Richard Wylie

CHERRYVILLE — Carroll Richard Wylie, 45, of 1019 St. Marks Church Road, died Oct. 15, 2003. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home. Burial followed in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.

He was formerly employed by Xcel and attended Anthony Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Vick Wylie and Darvin Wylie both of Cherryville and three sisters, Katherine Helms of Lincolnton, Nita Williams of Waco and Macie Davis of Shelby.

 

Darrell Ledford

SHELBY — Richard Darrell Ledford, 60, of 3875 E. Polkville Road, died Oct. 19, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Polkville Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 tonight at Stamey Funeral Home.

Born in Cleveland County, he was retired from Doran Mills.

Survivors include two sons, Dwayne Ledford of Lawndale and Danny Ledford of Shelby; three sisters, Burnette Camp of Lattimore, Sonja Robbins of Polkville and Verlinda Greene of Boiling Springs and two grandchildren, Robyn Ledford and Maggie Ledford.

 

Pete Potter

SHERRILLS FORD — Mitchell Nathan “Pete” Potter, of Surfwood Dr., died Oct. 17, 2003. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Born in Lincoln County, he was formerly employed by Stanley County Country Club as a golf course superintendent, U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Denver Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Gwynne Benfield Potter; three sons, Clifford Potter of Denver, Jason Potter of Newton and Greg Potter of Lincolnton; one step-daughter, Jennifer Hooper of Gibsonville; two sisters, Rachel Rowe of Newton and Peggy Sheppard of Denver; three brothers, David Potter of Stanley, Larry Potter of Maiden and Matt Potter of Newton and two grandchildren, Phillip Hooper and Anna Renee Potter.

Memorials may be made to East Lincoln Christian Ministry, 6636 Pine Ridge Dr., Denver, NC 28037.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Walter Mackey

CHERRYVILLE — Walter Mackey, 61, of 509 Mulberry St., died Oct. 20, 2003.

Florence Cruse

DENVER — Florence Duckworth Cruse, 84, of 1323 Cruse Lane, died Oct. 19, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hill Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warlick Funeral Home.

Born in Lincoln County, she was retired from the textile industry.

Survivors include three sons, Pat Cruse Jr. of Six Mile, SC, Garland Cruse and Donald Cruse both of Denver; one daughter, Sylvia Hager of Mooresville; two sisters, Margaret Correll of Denver and Josie Helton of Fort White, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

 

Magnolia Little

VIRGINIA — Magnolia Little, 72, of 229 Dryburg Road, died Oct. 19, 2003.
