Mark Adams

STANLEY — Mark Edward Adam, 48, of 7537 Sifford Road, died June 15, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Hills Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Montrose Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Born in Keokuk, Iowa, he was the owner of Adams Landscaping Co., Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon McGraw Adams; two daughters, Melanie Erin Adams of Greenville, S.C., and Lauren Elizabeth Adams of Keokuk, Iowa; a son, Brian Wesley Adams of Groton, Conn.; and his parents, Clarence Elsworth Adams and Joy Dose Adams of Keokuk, Iowa.

Warlick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Robert Rudisill

STANLEY — Robert Len Rudisill, 87, of Stanley Total Living Center, formerly of Denver, died June 17, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Denver United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8:30 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Born in Catawba County, he was a welder at the Wilmington shipyards during WWII, and worked for Duke Power Co. for 30 years until retirement. He belonged to the Jeremiah Sunday School class at his church and was a former member of the Mt. Holly Masonic Lodge.

 Survivors include two sons, Robert G. Rudisill of Lucia, and Harron “Gene” Rudisill of Jersey City, N.J. and Denver; one brother, Lawrence Rudisill of Stanley; two grandchildren, Jim Rudisill of Denver, and Jennifer Huff of Charlotte; and three great-grandchildren.

Yates Self

Yates Woodrow Self, 85, of 911 Salem Church Road, died June 17, 2002. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Asbury United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, and worked as a  supervisor in the textile industry.

Survivors include one son, William “Bill” Self of Lincolnton; three daughters, Judy Bailey, Jane Lockman, and Janis Self, all of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Michael Bailey, Rob Bailey, Greta Kale, and David Self; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3097 Asbury Church Rd., Lincolnton, N.C. 28092.

Mildred Spake

CHERRYVILLE — Mildred S. Spake, 87, of 1225 Requa Road, died June 16, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel at Stamey Cherryville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Gaston County, she worked as a twister for Howell Manufacturing until retirement. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cherryville.

Survivors include one son, Keith Earl Spake of Iron Station; a sister, Bertha Griffith of Cherryville; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Kelcy Finger, and Skylar Mackenzie Spake.

Harold Sipe

CHERRYVILLE — Harold Jack Sipe, 79, of 204 Harrelson Road, died June 16, 2002. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. today in City Memorial Cemetery.

Born in Gaston County, he was a U.S. Army veteran of the 29th Division during WWII, and the owner and operator of Peoples Cleaner of Cherryville until retirement,. He was a member of Community Pentecostal Holiness Church in Stanley.

Survivors include his wife, Margarie Ballard Sipe; a son, Larry Sipe of Kings Mountain; a brother, Maurice Sipe of Los Angeles, Calif.; a sister, Betty Ruth Cornwell of Cherryville; and two grandchildren, Carrie Sipe Edwards, and Casey Blair Sipe.

Memorials may be made to Community Pentecostal Center, 320 Ralph Handsel Blvd., Stanley, N.C. 28164.

Flay Neill

CHERRYVILLE — Flay E. Neill, 89, died June 17, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. A private burial will be held in City Memorial Cemetery prior to the service. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the funeral home.

Born in Gaston County, he worked in the carpentry industry until retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Mauney Neill; one son, Wayne Neill of Huntsville, Ala.; a daughter, Judi N. Brown of Mooresville; two sisters, Lorene Summey, and Zettie Morrison, both of Cherryville; and five grandchildren, Christie B. Harris, Shannon L. Browne, Steve Neill, Don Perrault, and Sharon A. Ortiz.

Memorials may be made to Harvest Presbyterian Church, 707 Lithia Rd., Lincolnton, N.C. 28092.

 

Ruth McGinnis

BESSEMER CITY — Ruth Beatrice Robinson McGinnis, 85, of 202 East Washington Avenue, died June 18, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

She was born in Mecklenburg County. 

Survivors include two daughters, Laura McGinnis Steedly of Bessemer City, and Nancy Diane McGinnis Barber of Athens, Ga.; one brother, Jay Robinson of Pensacola, Fla.; two sisters, Eloua Ballinger of Drexel, and Margaret Williams of Morganton; two grandchildren, Tanya Nicole Steedly Purcell, and Dawne Yvette Townsend; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, High Shoals; or First Baptist Church, Bessemer City.

 

Brenda Chasteen

Brenda Kaye Chasteen, 57, of 202 Mauney Drive, died June 18, 2002. A memorial service will be held Friday in Asheville.

Carl Wilson

Carl Walter “Dub” Wilson, 60, of 206 Greene St., died June 18, 2002.

Arrangements are incomplete at E.F. Drum Funeral Home.
