Kenneth Stiles

IRON STATION — Kenneth R. Stiles, 72, of 1562 Brevard Place Road, died May 18, 2003. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Carothers Funeral Home. Burial followed in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born in Catawba County, he was retired from Burlington Industries, employed by Burns Security and was a WWII Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife Rosa Stiles; three sons, Kenneth Wayne Stiles of Hickory, Joe Harrill and Steve Harrill of Iron Station; three daughters, Bobbie Stiles of Newton, Diane Stiles of Rutherfordton and Teresa Stiles of Hickory; five brothers, Dillard Stiles, Gene Stiles, Harold Stiles, Carol Stiles and Jr. Stiles all of Newton-Conover; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

 

Cassie Tillman

CHERRYVILLE — Cassie Danielle Bumgardner Tillman, 24, of 106 Sussex Ave., died May 18, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Born in Cleveland County, she was a bank teller for Bank of America and First Citizens.

Survivors include her husband Jason Tillman; one son, Gauge Tillman of the home; one daughter, Kelsie Cook of the home; mother, Phyllis Woods Bumgardner of Cherryville; grandmother, Eula Bumgardner; two brothers, Mark McSwain and Kevin McSwain both of Cherryville.

Carpenters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Guy Costner

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Guy Reid Costner, 82, of 132 Tobe Bridge Road, died May 19, 2003. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Mary’s Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Born in Cleveland County, he was retired from Howell Manufacturing Company, a children’s Sunday school teacher and a former Sunday school secretary.

Survivors include his wife Waynell Bingham Costner; one son, Edwin Costner of Kings Mountain; two daughters, Janet Elliott and Vickie Rudasill, both of Lawndale; seven grandchildren, Kevin Elliott, Dennis Elliott, Aimee Moore, Kristi Rudasill, Billy Rudasill, Stacey Costner and Clay Costner; and one great-grandchild.

Matthew Barber

CHERRYVILLE — Matthew Steven Barber, 12, of 107 James Street, died May 19, 2003. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. today at the Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Born in Los Angeles, Calif., he was a sixth grade student at Gaston Comprehensive Day Center and was in the CAP program.

Survivors include his mother Patricia Ann Barber Beckham of the home; one sister, Wendy Herrera of Victorville, Calif.; grandparents, Phillip M. and Daisy Heavner Kern and Sarah W. Heavner, all of Cherryville.

Lester Bivens

Lester McCoy Bivens, 95, of Howards Creek Mill Road, died May 20, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Roseland Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the Reepsville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at E.F. Drum Funeral Home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a farmer and a member of Reepsville Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, David Bivens of Lincolnton and Jim Bivens of Vale; four daughters, Jane White, Nancy White, Velma Bradshaw and Hazel Bivens, all of Lincolnton; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

 

Everette Wright

MAIDEN — Everette “Wayne” Wright, 56, of 4008 Buffalo Shoals Road, died May 20, 2003. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at United Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born in Catawba County.

Survivors include one daughter, Amanda Jane Wright of Maiden and one sister, Vickie Keller of Conover.

Memorials may be made to United Missionary Baptist Church, 6196 Hudson Chapel Road, Catawba, NC 28609.

Burke Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
