B. Hollifield

WACO — Buddy Hollifield, 72, of 2040 Capernaum Rd., died May 13, 2003. Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at Waco Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Capernaum Cemetery.

Born in Yancey County, he was a Ruritan National Director from 1989-1991 and National Foundation Trustee, member of the Tri-County Horseman Association, a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and a Western and Southern Insurance Company retiree.

Survivors include his wife Bessie Faye Marlowe Hollifield; one daughter, Regenia Randall of Casar; two sons, Dennis Hollifield of Shelby and Jonathan Hollifield of Kings Mountain; six grandchildren, Jason Hollifield, Holly Hollifield, Alex Hollifield, Taylor Hollifield, Shea Randall and Steve Randall; two great-grandchildren; four brothers J.D. Hollifield, Henry Hollifield, Dewey Carl Hollifield and Ed Hollifield, all of Asheville; and two sisters, Leila Proffit and Edna Dodd both of Asheville.

Joe Van Dyke

CHERRYVILLE — Joe Clifton Van Dyke, 73, of 100 Briarwood Circle, died May 14, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the City Memorial Cemetery with full honors rendered by the Cherryville Fire Department. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 tonight at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.

Born in Cherryville, he was retired from Marvin S. Beam Ford Dealership, the City of Cherryville Fire Department and the City of Cherryville Water Department. He was a U.S. Air Force Korean War veteran.

Survivors include his wife Kathleen Fisher Van Dyke; one daughter, Gina Van Dyke of Cherryville; one grandson, Alex Van Dyke of Cherryville and one sister, Diane Arias of Jemison, Ala.

Gene Wade

SHELBY — Arthur Gene Wade, 63, of 115 Steeple Street, died May 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Fellowship Church. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3 p.m. Friday at the church.

Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

 

Lisa Crevelle

SHELBY — Lisa Robin Crevelle, 37, of 2030 Elizabeth Ave., died May 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel at Enloe Mortuary.

 

Perry Weaver

SENECA, SC — Perry Ray Weaver, 46, of 306 Delphi Drive, died May 12, 2003. Funeral services will be today at 1 p.m. at Rhyne Heights United Methodist Church, Lincolnton, NC, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

He was employed by Duke Power Company.

Survivors include his wife Tina Griffin Weaver; his mother, Nancy Eurey Weaver of Lincolnton; two daughters, Jessica Rae Weaver and Kiley Elizabeth Weaver, both of the home; and two sisters, Candace E. Weaver of Terrell, NC, and Wanda L. Siler of Myrtle Beach.

Olaf Carpenter

BESSEMER CITY — Olaf “Soda” Nezre Carpenter, 80, of 821 Long Creek Road, died May 14, 2003. Funeral services will be today at 4 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 243.

Born in Gaston County he was a disabled veteran, a member of the Moose Lodge, DAV, and American Legion Post 243.

Survivors include two sons, Terry Carpenter and Carlton Carpenter both of Bessemer City; two daughters, Anita Smith of Lincolnton and Barbara Nichols of Bessemer City; two brothers, A.D. Carpenter of Dallas and Alvin Carpenter of Cherryville; two sisters, Lorene Mace of Bessemer City and Mazel Smith of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Brenda Clark

CHARLOTTE — Brenda M. Clark, 54, of 6101 Elgywood Lane, died May 15, 2003.

George Brewer

George William “Bud” Brewer, 65, of 1702 Lenora Circle, died May 15, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Salem Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.

Born in Washington County, Pa., he was employed as a cost accountant for R-Anell Homes and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie Benton Brewer of the home; one son, Joseph Martin Brewer of Lincolnton; one daughter, Leslie B. Hilburn of Iron Station; two brothers, Jerry Mitchell and John Brewer of Elco, Pa.; three sisters, Ruth Richardson of Monongahela, Pa., Hope Wargo of Charleroi, Pa. and Frances Wahl of Trussfield, Ala. and four grandchildren.

Louise Davis

Louise Beard Davis, 75, of 267 Old Lincolnton Crouse Road, died May 15, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Leonards Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Born in Catawba County, she was a textile industry retiree.

Survivors include two sons, James Davis of Lincolnton and Wayne Davis of Vale; two daughters, Libby D. Strother of Southern Pines and Christine D. Mosteller of Lincolnton; four brothers, Carl Beard, Bill Beard, Rob Beard and Glenn Beard, all of Maiden; six sisters, Rosie Poovey, Edith Pirkle, Betty Willis, Mary Emmett, Dorothy Lazenby and Ruth Cansler all of Maiden and eight grandchildren.

Judy Brown

KINGSTOWN — Judy G. Brown, 47, of 107 Foxhill Drive, died May 16, 2003.
