CHERRYVILLE — Charlie Mack Towery, 75, of 3900 Wexford Lane, died Dec. 10, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday
at North Brook Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a retired pulpwood operator.
Survivors include one daughter, Joanie Towery of South Carolina; two brothers, Esper Towery of Cherryville and Marion Towery Jr. of
Lincolnton and one sister, Ola Lovelace of Cherryville.

DENVER — Ernest Stanley “Bass” Smith, 45, of 723 Rufus Road, died Dec. 28, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at
Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3 p.m. Thursday at the church.
He was born in Iredell County.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Ruby Smith; two children, Keymandy Williamson of the home and LaShawnda Smith of
Charlotte; three sisters, Brenda Brooks of Charlotte, Erlene Howard and Betty Smith both of Denver and two brothers, Robert Smith and Edward Smith both of Charlotte.

Born in Comer, Ga., he was formerly employed by Vulcan Material, served in the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.

daughter, Belinda Worley of Taylors, SC; two brothers, Raymond Duffell of Comer, Ga. and George Duffell of Athen, Ga.; two sisters, Nellie Vaughen and Mary Roach both of Royston, Ga. and six grandchildren, Kristie
Lamaccha, Adam Worley, Lisa Worley, Daniel Duffell, Scott Worley and Alicia Worley.
James King
VALE — James Gray King, 68, of 8932 Reepsville Road, died Jan. 1, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today in the Drum Funeral
Home Chapel in Conover. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.
He was retired from the Lincoln County School System, an employee at the Springs Road Flea Market, U.S. Marine veteran, a member of
the VFW and he was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his mother, Helen King of Vale; two daughters, Tona Joiner of Lake City, Fla., Rhonda Thompson of Lincolnton; one
sister, Dorothy Hudspeth of Lincolnton; seven brothers, Eddie King of Lincolnton, Eugene King of Morganton, Kenneth King of Gastonia, Bill King of Sherrills Ford, Larry King of Lincolnton, Lonnie King of Gastonia
and Roger King of Vale; six grandchildren, Miranda Joiner, Justin Joiner, Zachary Joiner, Adam Thompson, Andrew Thompson and Adair Thompson.

Born in Georgetown, Mass., he was an assistant jail administrator for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Taylor of the home; two sons, Christopher Shafer of Rocky Mount and Alden Cummings of Oregon; two
daughters, Joyce Taylor of Marion, Mont. And Charissa Jenkins of Stanley; one brother, Alden Taylor of Cammeron; one sister, Martha Peabody of Washington, Mass.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Born in Cleveland County, she was retired from Hickory Springs Manufacturing where she was a member of the Century Club.

of Shelby and Edith Ashley of Lawndale; three grandchildren, Teresa Sells, Johnny Scism II and Tammy Scism and five great-grandchildren.

Born in Rutherford County, he was employed by National Textiles as Chief of Security.

daughters, Janice Soares of Forest City and Christi Edmunds of Rock Hill, SC; two granddaughters, Cortney Cooper
