Bobby Setzer

GASTONIA — Bobby Lee Setzer, 68, of 946 Bond Avenue, died Jan. 8, 2004. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at High Shoals Cemetery.

He was a Baptist minister for 20 years.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Setzer of the home; four sons, Chris Setzer of Crouse, Tommy Setzer and James Lane both of Gastonia and Tim Lane of Charlotte; one daughter, Carol Six of Lincolnton and three grandchildren, Heather Six, David Setzer and Harley Dennis.

Greene Funeral Home South Chapel in Gastonia was in charge of arrangements.

 

Ricky Turner

VALE — Ricky Lee Turner, 54, of 4170 W. Hwy. 27, died Jan. 8, 2004. A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel.

Born in Lincoln County, he worked in residential construction.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey Turner and Scottie Turner both of Lincolnton; his parents, Bill Catherine Turner of Vale; one brother, Freddie Turner of Lincolnton; two sisters, Brenda Bivens and Wanda Turner both of Vale and three grandchildren, Macy Turner, Zakari Turner and Austin Turner.

Memorials may be donated to the family for medical expenses to 4170 W. Hwy. 27, Vale, NC 28168.

 

Charlie Hoover

Charlie Forrest Hoover, 81, of Lincolnton, died Jan. 10, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Bethphage Lutheran Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. today at the church.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hoover of the home; one daughter, Peggy Story of Newton; three sisters, Pauline Yoder of Lincolnton, Margaret Schronce of Vale and Julia Shipes of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Dr. Alan Story of Newton and Debby Hall of Cherryville and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Christian Ministries of Lincoln County, Home Meal Program, PO Box 423, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Burke Mortuary in Maiden is in charge of arrangements.

 

Hazel Harmon

Hazel Lee Harmon, 78, of 141 Hershel Lackey Road, died Jan. 9, 2004. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethphage Lutheran Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a cashier-salesperson for Eagles Five and Dime Store.

Survivors include two sisters, Inez Lackey of Lincolnton and Lula Huss of Shelby and a number of nieces and nephews.

Melvin Ledbetter

CLAERMONT — Melvin Douglas Ledbetter, 61, of 3526 Ole Country Lane, died Jan. 11, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

He was born in Cleveland County.

Survivors include two daughters, Wendy Williamson of Newton and Mrs. Timothy Spence of Hiddenite; three grandchildren, Chasity Ledbetter, Dustin Williamson and Timothy Spence; one brother, Jaye Ledbetter of Maiden and one sister, Margaret Kennedy of Aberdeen.

J. Montgomery

CHERRYVILLE — Rev. Dr. James E. Montgomery Sr., 52, of 186 Mill Road, died Jan. 9, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he was senior pastor and a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was born in Gaston County.

Survivors include his wife, Velrry Sweezy Montgomery of the home; two sons, James Montgomery Jr. of Waco and Scottie Montgomery of Atlanta, Ga.; one granddaughter, Jalin Montgomery; two brothers, Frank Montgomery of Shelby and William Montgomery of Cherryville and seven sisters, Mayola Montgomery, Shirley Tuft, Dorothy Montgomery all of Cherryville, Jeanette Oates of Kings Mountain, Carolyn Wilson and Teresa Smith both of Shelby and Rebecca Tuft of Waco.

Ebony and White’s Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

 

Evelyn Little

MOORESVILLE — Evelyn Crouse Little, 70, of Glenwood Drive, died Jan. 10, 2004. A graveside service was held at 11:30 a.m. today at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Born in Catawba County, she was retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Curtis Little of Arlington, Texas; her mother, Esther Hilderbrand Crouse of Maiden; two brothers, Gary Crouse of Lincolnton and Neil Crouse of Conover; one sister, Mary Ellen Dellinger of Lincolnton; two grandchildren, Evie Huffman and Stephanie Little and one great-granddaughter.

Carrie Philbeck

CHERRYVILLE — Carrie Viola Philbeck, 88, of 109 E. Ballard St., died Jan. 11, 2004. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Carpenters Funeral Home.

She was born in Rutherford County.

Survivors include two daughters, Willie Hallman of Lincolnton and Phyllis Burleson of Cherryville; two sisters, Velma Pope of Cherryville and Beatrice Dellinger of Crouse; one grandson, Matthew Hallman and two great-grandchildren.
