Ivey Lankford

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Ivey Culberson Lankford, 92, of 806 Church St., died Jan. 6, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Second Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. Interment will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Born in Gaston County, she was retired from Margrace Mills and a charter member of Second Baptist Church.

Survivors include one brother, Donnie Culberson of Lincolnton and a number of nieces and nephews.

Harris Funeral Home in Kings Mountain is in charge of arrangements.

 

Ray Cody

CONCORD — Rev. Ray Spencer Cody, 95, of Brian Center Health and Retirement, died Jan. 6, 2004. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at Lady’s Funeral Home in Kannapolis.

Born in Stanly County, he was a retired minister and attended Mt. Mitchell United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Porter of Seabrook, Texas and Raychel Carroll of Kannapolis; four sisters, Myrtle Allen of Eatonton, Ga., Mary Frances Harris and Jewel Medlin both of Arlington, Va. and Lucille Nance of Albemarle; four granddaughters, Christine Hoyle, Valerie Marcott, Kimberly Page and Sara Carroll and five great-grandchildren.

Thelma Cannon

NEWTON — Thelma Gayle Cannon, 51, of 128 W. 15th St., died Jan. 7, 2004. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born in Caldwell County.

Survivors include two daughters, Dawn Hamilton and Cindy Frazie both of Newton; four sisters, Barbara Lutz of Maiden, Juanita Bolick of Newton, Betty Davis of Texas and Sherry Mortez of Granite Falls; her mother, Margaret Davis Cannon of Newton and three grandsons.

Keeva Hunt

SHERRILLS FORD — Keeva Jovan Hunt, 26, of 3453 Mt. Beulah Road, died Jan. 6, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton. Burial will follow at Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday at Burke Mortuary.

Born in Catawba County, she was employed by Balls Creek Head Start.

Survivors include her mother, Sharon Hunt of Claremont; father and step-mother, Bobby and Vivian Hunt of Claremont; one daughter, Kyndal Hunt of the home; four brothers, Steven Hunt of the home, Kensley Dalton of Statesville, Aaron Hunt and Corey Hunt both of Claremont; paternal grandparents Floyd and Jeanette Phillips of Catawba; maternal grandfather, Billy Gibbs of Lenoir and great-grandmother, Daisy Miller of Taylorsville.

 

Bonnie Hallman

CHERRYVILLE — Bonnie Lee Hallman, 72, of 406 S. Jacob St., died Jan. 7, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Born in Lincoln County, she was retired from Dora Yarn Mill and a member of Free Saints Chapel.

Survivors include four daughters, Robin Black of Waco, Patricia Hallman, Vickie Philbeck and Tammy Pruett all of Cherryville; one brother, Marvin Ray of Lincolnton; two sisters, Dorothy Ray and Barbara Johnson both of Lincolnton and three grandchildren, Amy Lackey, Ashley Lackey and Tyler Pruett.

 

Leck Ledford

HICKORY — Leck Ledford, 77, died Jan. 7, 2004. The Celebration of Life Service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Catawba Funerals and Cremations in Hickory. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday in The Celebration of Life Room at Catawba Funerals and Cremations.

Born in Lincoln County, he was retired from Winn-Dixie, served as a Naval Military Police and was a member of Unity Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Elrod Ledford of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Ledford of Hickory; one brother, Robert Ledford of Vale and three sisters, Mozelle Shidel, Thelma Taylor and Laureen Lawing all of Lincolnton.

Kenneth Proctor

Kenneth Ray Proctor, 59, of 1875 Arrowood Lane, died Jan. 7, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Born in Catawba County, he served as a U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant in Vietnam, was a member of the Cherryville American Legion Post 100 and Lincolnton Church of God and was employed by Lincoln County Schools as a floor technician.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Proctor of the home; one daughter, Caroline Brown of Lincolnton; his mother, Essie Wood Proctor of Cherryville; one brother, Dennis Proctor of Cherryville; one sister, Sherry Proctor of Cherryville and one grandson, Michael Brown.

 

E. Featherstone

Ervin “Red” Featherstone Sr., 85, of the Brian Center, died Jan. 8, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Born in Gaston County, he was retired from Carolina Freight as a truck driver and was a WWII Army veteran.

Survivors include three sons, Ervin Featherstone Jr. of Iron Station, David Featherstone of Lincolnton and Randy Featherstone of Charleston, SC; one daughter, Rhonda Rhyne of Burlington, Ky.; one sister, Lucille Lingerfelt of Lincolnton; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Charles Piercy

MAIDEN — Charles Setzer Piercy, 81, of 508 W. Main St., died Jan. 8, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Maiden. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery with Military graveside honors by American Legion Post 240. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Born in Catawba County, he was retired from Broyhill Furniture and was a WWII U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Piercy of Lincolnton and John Piercy of Clarmont; three daughters, Virginia Quintero of Silver Springs, Md., Denise Campbell and Debbie Poovey both of Maiden; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

 

John Goins

CHERRYVILLE — John Thomas “Tee” Goins, 85, died Jan. 8, 2004. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, a member of Cherryville American Legion Post 100 and was retired from Carlton Yarn Mill.

Survivors include one daughter, Janice Ballard of Cherryville; four grandchildren, Jamey Wyatt, Julie Wyatt, Dana Prez and Samuel Prez; three great-grandchildren and one sister, Bertie Carpenter of Crouse.

 

Jonathan Hopkins

VALE — Jonathan David Hopkins Jr., infant son of Jonathan Hopkins Sr. and Amanda Pennington of 1655 Cat Square Road, died Jan. 8, 2004. No services are scheduled at this time.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Marlene Hopkins of Vale and maternal grandfather, Walter Williams of Ohio.

Warlick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

 

Earline Young

Earline Hampton Young, 92, of the Heathhouse, formerly of E. Hwy. 27, died Jan. 9, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Boger City Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Warlick Funeral Home.

Born in Lindale, Ga., she was retired from Talon Zipper.

Survivors include one sister, Maxine Christy of Charlotte and a number of nieces and nephews.
