Don Wallace

Don Taylor Wallace, 41, of Crystal Court, died Jan. 26, 2002. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Living Word Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Born in Gaston County, he was a welder with Under Ground Construction Company.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Crouse Wallace; a son, Joshua Wallace of the home; his parents, J.D. and Ruby Wallace of Dallas; three brothers, Ed Wallace of Stanley, Jack Wallace, and Wayne Wallace, both of Dallas; and one sister, Susan Jacobs of Gastonia .

Bud Shull

Bud Ralph Shull, 51, of 710 Louise Avenue, died Jan. 27, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. today in Laurel Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Born in Burke County, he worked for RSI Home Products.

Survivors include two sons, Buddy Shull, and Jeff Fowler, both of Vale; one daughter, Cynthia Goins of Lincolnton; his mother and step-father, Laura Willis and L.A. Willis of Vale; one brother, Hugh Shull of Sunshine, Bostic; two sisters, Kitty Barrett of Lawndale, and Margaret Rudisill of Vale; four grandchildren, Mackenzie Goins, Cricket Shull, Cierra Shull, and Brittney Fowler.

Farrell Jenks

VALE — Farrell Nicholas Jenks, 8, of 549 Bert Yarboro Road, died Jan. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gloryland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Warlick Funeral Home.

Born in Catawba County, he was a student at A Place To Grow.

Survivors include his parents, Wanda and Ashley Jenks of the home; one brother, Ryan Jenks of the home; grandparents, Bobby and Jean Jenks of Vale, and Eddie and Shirley Perkins of Iron Station; and great-grandparents, Albert Rhony, Farrell and Helen Jenks, all of Vale, Selwyn Perkins of Iron Station, and Clyde Scronce of Lincolnton.

Mary Pruett

Mary Agnes Pruett, 73, of 1883 Bill Lynch Road, died Jan. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born in Lincoln County, she worked in the textile industry.

Survivors include one son, Bob Pruett of Cherryville; four daughters, Ruth Byers, and Jeanette Hallman, both of Lincolnton, Dorothy Peeler of Cherryville, and Karen Elliott of Lawndale; two brothers, Esper Engle, and Ralph Engle, both of Lincolnton; three sisters, Merle Shull of Cherryville, Onie Gantt, and Prue Gantt, both of Vale; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Virginia Porter

Virginia Gabriel Porter, 79, of the Brian Center, formerly of Lawing Street, died Jan. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Born in Lincoln County, she worked in the textile industry.

Survivors include three daughters, Linda Hovis, and Sherry Garner, both of Lincolnton, and Marie Schroeder of Crossville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

SHELBY — Arthur Edward Hoey, 70, of 2320 Mason Street, died Jan. 25, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eskridge Grove Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 7 at the church.

SHELBY — Avia Lee Poston Rice, 86, of 823 Buffalo Street, died Jan. 28, 2002.

Maude Johnson

LANCASTER, S.C. — Maude Lee Nix Goodwin Johnson, 79, of 1573 Douglas Road, formerly of Lincolnton, N.C. died Jan. 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today in the chapel at E. F. Drum Funeral Home, Lincolnton. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.

Born in Georgia, she was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, John David Goodwin of Lincolnton; and one step-son, Gerald Johnson of Lancaster, S.C.

 

DeWayne Wilson

NEWTON — DeWayne Wilson, 68, of 3629 Yount Road, died Jan. 27, 2002. A funeral service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Living Word Pentecostal Church in Maiden. A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. today in Piney Grove Baptist Church cemetery.

Born in Yancey County, he worked in the furniture industry until retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Mae Lloyd Wilson; four sons, Daniel W. Wilson of Lincolnton, Dennis B. Wilson, and Dustin L. Wilson, both of Newton, and David Ray Wilson of Hickory; two daughters, Donna Cook of Lincolnton, and Destiny M. Wilson of Newton; three brothers, Norris Wilson, Hugh Wilson, and Gary Wilson, all of Spruce Pine; six sisters, Hazel Wyatt, Brenda Watson, and Glenda Fox, all of Spruce Pine, Mildred Wilson of Marion, Phyllis Manus of Miss., and Erma Wilson of Hudson; 14 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

Christine Martin

LAWNDALE — Christine Campbell Martin, 74, of 238 Flat Rock Road, died Jan. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Friendship United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:30 until 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Born in Cleveland County, she was a member of the Friendship Club for Seniors, the Friendship Sunday School Class, and the United Methodist Women. She worked with Shadowline, Inc. for 20 years until retirement.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Martin of Lawndale, and Michael Martin of Belmont; one brother, J. Gary Campbell of Lawndale; two sisters, Joan C. Newton of Casar, and Carolyn C. Jenkins of Shelby; and four grandchildren, Brandon Martin, Alex Martin, Jeremy Martin, and Julie Martin.

Thurman Ritchie

CHARLOTTE — Thurman Edward Ritchie, 67, died Jan. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mulberry Baptist Church where he was a member. Internment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Born in Lincoln County, he was a professional truck driver with Burlington Industries of Cramerton for 47 years.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ritchie; two step-daughters, Deborah Benage of Greenville, S.C., and Cheryl Little of Billings, Mont.; and a step-son, Wendell Green of Hiram; his father, Woodrow Ritchie of Gastonia; a sister, Margaret Hall of Gastonia; and eight grandchildren, Carolyn Nicole Coppala, Christy Wright, Chris Green, Ryan Green, Sandra Raymond, Roxanna Raymond, Angela Raymond, and A.J. Little.

Elijah Davis

NEBO — Elijah M. Davis, 92, died Jan. 28, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Westmoreland Chapel. Burial will follow in McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Westmoreland Funeral Home.

Born in McDowell County, he was a U. S. Navy WWII veteran, a retired building contractor and a member of a non-denominational church.

Survivors include five sons, Dean Davis, and Fred Davis, both of Marion, Mickey Davis , and Francis Davis, both of Old Fort, and Donald Davis of Morganton; three daughters, Louise Brown of Nebo, Brenda Brown of Lincolnton, and Nancy Miller of Old Fort; a sister, Marie Chapman of Marion; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Virginia Carey

Virginia Hatfield Carey, 73, of 133 Boulder Drive, died Jan. 30, 2002.

Shirley Thompson

ATLANTA, Ga. — Shirley Laughridge Thompson, 78, formerly of Lincolnton. died Jan. 29, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall one hour prior to the service.

Born in Gastonia, she was a volunteer for Christian Ministries, and Lincoln Hospice.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Thompson Collins of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Lawrence Laughridge of Phoenix, Ariz.; three sisters, Bea Chambless of Vero Beach, Fla., Norma Williams of Raleigh, and Marion Carpenter of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren, Jay Collins, and Kelly Martin.
