Barbecue spot opens

Published December 3, 2003

‘Tis the season for pork

By AMY WADSWORTH, Staff Writer

————————————

Staff members dressed as pigs will swarm outside of Lake-Shore Barbecue Dec. 6 for its grand opening. Santa will also come to visit from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Denver barbecue restaurant may be the only restaurant in the area that specializes in authentic Lexington style. It has been open since September.

Owners Robin and Roger Stump have always wanted to open their own restaurant since college. The couple who have been married 18 years both graduated from East Carolina University.

“We have always done a lot of barbecue for our friends over the years,” Robin said. “We have enjoyed it and so we decided to open a restaurant.”

Roger said he and his wife had an interest in learning the Lexington style barbecue. They both trained in High Point with Henry Rodgers who owns two restaurants. The majority of their recipes are all homemade including the barbecue, ribs and desserts.

The restaurant is called Lake-Shore because of its proximity to the lake.

Pictures of sailing and country houses adorn the walls.

“Our daughter Courtney thought of the name,” Roger said.

The couple hopes to expand the business if needed.

When the Stump’s are not serving up barbecue, they are busy with their first aid and safety business. This is the couple’s third business together.

Lake-Shore Barbecue offers catering, pick-up and dining in.

The restaurant is located at 1219 N. N.C. 16 in the Triangle Plaza.

Hours are Monday to Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
