Two killed in wreck
From staff reports
Dec. 26, 2001 - Two Lincolnton residents were killed and a third person injured Sunday night in a two-car accident on Buffalo Shoals Road.
Gaston McKinley Harris,49, and Debra Earl, both of 3513 Mission Drive, were killed when their car skidded out of control, swerving into the other lane. They
hit an oncoming car about a tenth of a mile from Woolie Road.
The third person, whose name could not be released, was badly injured. He had to be cut out of his car by a crash truck brought in to help from Lincoln County Life Saving Crew. He was taken
to Lincoln Medical Center to be treated.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department Chief Detective Ronnie Matthews is still investigating the death of a 20-year-old Lincolnton man.
Jeremy Philip Mauney, of Lincolnton, was found on the side of Gastonia Highway just south of Victory Grove Church Road Saturday. He had a puncture wound to his
abdomen, said Trooper Don Angel, who began the investigation.
Officers think Mauney’s death could be a hit-and-run, said Angel, but there was little evidence at the scene. With no tire marks and no debris from an
accident, the victim’s body was sent to Winston-Salem to the medical examiner in order to further the investigation.
