Man found dead on road

From staff reports

Dec. 24, 2001 - A 20-year-old man was killed in a possible hit-and-run Saturday night.

The victim, Jeremy Philip Mauney of Lincolnton, was found on the side of Gastonia Highway just south of Victory Grove Church Road around 10:30. He had a puncture wound to his abdomen, said Trooper Don Angel, who began the investigation.

Mauney’s death is believed to be a hit-and-run, said Angel, but there was little evidence at the scene. With no tire marks and no debris, the victim’s body was sent to Winston-Salem to the medical examiner in order to further the investigation.

With a change to a murder charge, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was brought in on the investigation.

Mauney was born in Lincoln County and worked for Julius Blum.
