Lincoln NAACP holds annual banquet
By ANDIE LEATHERMAN, LTN Staff Writer
Oct. 22 - Lincoln County’s NAACP held its fifth annual banquet Saturday night at the Oaklawn Community Center.
Rev. Charles Turner, president of Cleveland County NAACP, gave the keynote address, speaking on the
organization’s need for training, innovation, motivation and execution of plans.
“Yesterday’s training will not be sufficient in the 21st century,” he said. “We have not introduced any new methodology in a long time. Unless we allow innovation to come in this
organization, it will die.”
Turner focused on the need to motivate youth and the NAACP itself.
“We’ve got to motivate our kids. Motivation must be put back in this organization,” he said.
Executing well made plans capped off his speech.
“You’ve got to get somebody who knows where he or she is going. We need leaders who can execute our plan into reality.”
William Pearson, past county chapter president, was given a lifetime membership for his work since 1971.
Edith Lomax was honored for years of dedicated service. Dr. George Creed was recognized for his work as organization secretary. Bill Walker and Marty Hester
were recognized for their work in renovating the Oaklawn School into a community center.
Zion Hill, Providence Baptist, Links Chapel, Poplar Springs, Tuckers Grove, Faith Worship Center and Rock Hill United Methodist Church were honored for supporting the NAACP.
Rev. Robert Hamilton is the president of the local branch.
