State officials have named a Shelby man superintendent at Lincoln Correctional Institution.

John Crow will replace Steve Boyles, who was named correctional administrator of Western Youth Institution on July 1.

Crow was named superintendent by Theodis Beck, secretary of the N.C. Department of Correction. He will start in the position Sept. 1.

“I am confident that John Crow will be an effective leader for Lincoln Correctional Center,” Beck said. “His experience and his background in programs will serve him well as superintendent.”

After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1985, Crow worked at Cleveland Community College, teaching adult basic education at Cleveland Correctional Institution.

In 1987, he officially began his career with the Department of Correction as a program assistant at Cleveland Correctional Institution.

He moved up the ranks at Cleveland, serving as a program supervisor and program direction, before being named assistant superintendent this year.

After spending his entire career at Cleveland, Crow is eager to start his job at Lincoln.

“I’m excited about the challenge,” he said. “I look forward to the opportunity to work with the people of Lincoln as a superintendent.”

Crow lives in Shelby with his wife, Betsy, and their two children. In his spare time, he supports his children’s youth soccer.
