The Raleigh Ringers will kick off the Lincoln County Concert Associations 2003-04 season Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Citizens Center.
The community handbell choir consists of auditioned musicians under the direction of David M. Harris.
Co-president of the LCCA Adair Cantwell says she has gotten good response from booking the group already.
“A lot of people have called who saw them on PBS. They played a Christmas concert that was fabulous,” she says.
The musicians will be the first of five presentations that form an inaugural year for the LCCA, formerly the Lincoln Community Concert Association, part of the national Community
Concert Association.
Cantwell says the national organization went bankrupt last season, but the Lincolnton chapter will continue.
“We’re able to function by ourselves,” she says. “We have been booking things independently for the last couple of years so it wasn’t a big change for us.”
Cantwell credits the people in the area for helping the association exist for the past 21 years.
“I just think Lincolnton is wonderful. Lincolnton supports the arts,” she says. “It’s a real unusual town.”
She adds that support also comes from the entire community. To address the needs of the county, LCCA performances will be held in various locations throughout the season.
“We have a lot of people from east Lincoln that buy memberships. So, we just wanted to reach that part of the county.”
Concerts will be held at the Citizens Center, the Lincoln Cultural Center and North Lincoln High School.
Performances for the season include the following:
The Raleigh Ringers, Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Citizens Center
Richard Glazier, Monday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. at the Citizens Center
