Pageant celebrates 25th year

Ten young Lincoln County women are up for the title of 2003 Apple Queen at the 25th Anniversary Miss Lincoln County Apple Queen Scholarship Pageant to be held at the Citizens Center on
Saturday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m.
The event, sponsored by the Lincolnton Business and Professional Women’s Organization (BPW) for the past 25 years, is considered the official kickoff event to the Apple Festival in
September.
NBC 6 Weatherman Larry Sprinkle will make a return visit as master of ceremonies for the evening.
Entertainment will include Shannon Cornwell Devine, reigning Mrs. North Carolina, the newly crowned 2003 Young Miss North Carolina Elaine Gregory and former apple queens.
An anniversary reception will be held immediately following the pageant for all attendees to meet and greet the contestants, the newly crowned 2003 Apple Queen and former apple queens.
Mrs. Billie Watts Lawson, the first queen crowned in 1978, will be attending.
The following are this year’s contestants:
Haley Nicole Caldwell, daughter of Lanny and Cindy Caldwell of Lincolnton, is a senior at Lincolnton High School. She plans to major in elementary education.
Jessica Lynn Campbell, daughter of Mike and Elaine Campbell of Maiden, is a senior at East Lincoln High School. She plans to seek a degree in engineering.
Erin Maureen Connolly, daughter of Joanna M. Connolly of Cherryville, is a senior at Burns High School. She plans to work in the
entertainment industry in graphic research and design, acting and promotional development.
Terran Elaine Farris, daughter of Torben and Tammy Farris of Lincolnton, is a senior at Lincolnton High School. She plans to become a nurse.
Amanda Carole Hannon, daughter of Tommy and Joan Hannon of Lincolnton, is a senior at East Lincoln High School. She plans to attend the University of North Carolina at
Wilmington to major in business.
Lindsey Ann Houk, daughter of Larry and Charlotte Houk of Denver, is a senior at East Lincoln High School. She plans to major in political
science at Clemson.
Ashlie Denise Kelley, daughter of Cindy Kelley of Lincolnton, is a 2003 graduate of Lincolnton High School. She plans to major in child psychology.
Tara Marie Marrs, daughter of Rosemary and Randy Stanley of Lincolnton, is a senior at East Lincoln High School. She plans to major in journalism/mass communication.
Heather Brooke Morris, daughter of Gary and Cheryl Morris of Iron Station, is a 2002 graduate of East Lincoln High School. She is a
sophomore at Gardner Webb/ Gaston College majoring in business.
Autumn Brooke Stokes, daughter of Stoney and Polly Stokes of Denver, is a 2002 graduate of East Lincoln High School. She is a sophomore at
UNC-Charlotte majoring in biology to become a pediatric nurse.

Advance tickets for adults, $8, and seniors and children under twelve, $6, are available at the Lincolnton/Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce, 101 E. Main St. or any of the following
People’s Banks: Hwy. 27 West, East Main St., and in Denver at Hwy. 16 and 150 or Hwy. 16 and 73. At the door, tickets will be $10 and $8.
Scholarships totaling $4,300 will be awarded at the pageant: $2,500 for the queen, $1,000 1st runner-up, $750 2nd runner-up, and a $100 cash award and engraved apple plaque for Miss
Congeniality.
