Officers find 360 marijuana plants

August 2, 2002 - VALE —More than 360 grown marijuana plants weighing a total of 63 pounds were found on the property of a Vale man Monday.
In one of the biggest live marijuana seizures in years, Lincoln County officers moved onto the property of Harold Ray Scronce, 5115 Hoyle Farm Road, on
Thursday after obtaining consent to search..
Sgt. Tim Johnson of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department received information regarding possible marijuana plants being grown on Scronce’s property. He said
the property had been under surveillance for two weeks.
Johnson, Deputy Billy Martin, Lt. Larry Stanley, Sgt. Brian Doolittle and narcotics supervisor Lt. Gene Sain conducted the search and discovered 362
grown marijuana plants and three dried plants.
Johnson said Scronce cooperated with authorities during the search.
Bobby Hammonds of the North Carolina Department of Revenue was called to the scene to collect the tax imposed on illegal drugs by the state.
Taxes were levied upon Scronce in the amount of $142,042.
Officers said the Scronce property, including vehicles, equipment and some $123,000 in his bank account has been seized.
