MAIDEN —The Town of Maiden will spend nearly $200,000 less next year than it did this year.

The Maiden Town Council passed the town’s fiscal year 2003-2004 budget at its regular meeting Monday night.

The $13.3 million budget calls for a property tax rate of $0.38 per $100 of valuation, unchanged from last year.

At Monday’s meeting the council also:

    · Passed an ordinance to amend the fiscal year 2002-2003 budget to record $515.96 of state forfeiture funds in the police department.

    · Passed and ordinance to amend the fiscal year 2002-2003 budget to record $2,885.58 of federal forfeiture funds in the police department.

    · Renewed its contract with Catawba County for fire inspections. The contract is worth $10,350.48.

    · Renewed its contract with QEI, Inc. for monitoring and maintaining the town’s electronic equipment. The total contract, both hardware and software, is worth $5,416.

    · Renewed its agreement with Catawba County for the nutrition program at the Maiden Community Center. The program costs the town $500 per quarter.

    · Scheduled a July 7 public hearing on the proposed verifiable percentage goal for minority business participation in the construction of the Clark’s Creek Water and Sewer Plant project.

    · Heard Town Manager Herman Caulder’s report on the recent bid for the King’s Grant water system. Caulder placed a $65,100 bid on the system Friday.
