The third annual Lake Norman Regatta dodged the recent nasty weather and sailed as expected.
Proceeds from the regatta benefited Hospice at Charlotte/Hospice of Lincoln County.
The joint Hospice venture raised more than $20,000 this year, doubling the $10,000 raised last year.
“This is our most unique and successful fund-raiser,” said Amy Gore, Hospice at Charlotte’s assistant director of development.
Hospice provides “quality, compassionate, palliative health care and support services to individuals and families facing life-threatening illnesses,” according to the organization’s
mission statement.
Outrageous, an SOV-33 sailboat, and its skipper, Richard Jones of Matthews, won first place overall in the regatta.
Outrageous will compete in the National Hospice Regatta next year in Annapolis, Md.
Wild Thang, also an SOV-33, and its skipper, Johnny Smith of Denver, won second place overall.
