Long seeks clerk’s post
From staff reports
June 10, 2002 - Jerry Long, an administrative officer with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office, has announced his candidacy for the office of Lincoln
County Clerk of Court.
“I have experience with planning and operating budgets, as well as with personnel management,” said Long, who has worked with the court system in Lincoln
County for many years,.
“I am familiar with court procedures and most of the required paper work,” said Long who is running as a Republican.
Long, 56, is a military veteran, and a graduate of Lincolnton High School. He is a graduate of the N.C. Justice Academy Management Development Program. He has
earned an N.C. Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the North Carolina Sheriff’s Commission and was an active member of the Lincoln County Law Enforcement Association, where he has served as president.
He has been employed by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for the past 16 years as head of Criminal Investigations, as a criminal investigator, a patrol officer, and as a civil officer.
Long said he would like to make the clerk’s office “people friendly.”
“The people of Lincoln County should feel comfortable while transacting business with the Clerk of Court office,” he said.
Long said he would also like to see an expansion of magistrate services to the county.
“I would like to work with our current magistrates and with the Administrative Office of the Courts, to establish two satellite magistrates offices: one on the western end of the county and
one on the eastern end. This would ensure that citizens living in those areas would be served more conveniently.”
Long is among four Republicans, three Democrats and one unaffiliated candidate seeking the post. Incumbent clerk Pam Huskey has retired from the position,
which is now held by interim clerk Teresa Peeler, who is also seeking the position.
