Top seniors to be honored at banquet

May 20, 2002 - Lincoln County’s top high school seniors for 2002 will be recognized Tuesday at the 23rd Annual Academic Achievement Banquet at the Citizens
Center.
Ten top seniors will be honored from each of the county’s three high schools.
Gill McGregor, a former Wake Forest University basketball player, will be the speaker.
The event is sponsored by the Lincolnton/Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce.
Lincolnton High School
The top ten Lincolnton High seniors are:
Ashley Latham Abernethy, daughter of David Andrew and Pat Latham Abernethy, will attend N.C. State University to major in zoology.
Rachel Frances Cagle, daughter of Charles Donald and Frances Ann Cagle, will attend Belmont Abbey College to major in elementary education.
Patrick Lawrence Fletcher, son of James Louis and Libby Ross Fletcher, will attend UNC-Chapel Hill to major in pharmacy.
Brenton Christopher Hartman, son of Eugene Hartman Jr. and Jacqueline Hartman, is undecided in his choice of college but plans to major in chemistry.
Matthew Wade Hawn, son of Kenneth, and Linda Hawn, will attend N.C. State University to major in engineering and management.
Jessica Ruth Kirkland, daughter of Boyce Warren and Linda Anna Leatherman, will attend Lenoir-Rhyne College to major in business and communications.
Diana Maria Leon, daughter of Rodolfo Alejandro and Hilda Del Socorro Leon, will attend UNC-Chapel to major in nursing and minoring in administration.
Erik Jason Loomis, son of Bryan Jay Loomis, will attend N.C. State University to major in computer engineering.
Emily Jane Morton, daughter of Stephen Phillip and Jane Rudisill Morton, will attend UNC-Chapel Hill to major in pre-medicine.
Cristina Simmons von Staden, daughter of Patrick Edward and Tina Lynn von Staden, will attend Appalachian State University to major in interior design.
West Lincoln High School
The top ten West Lincoln seniors are:
Sara Anne Bumgarner, daughter of Tim and Melanie Bumgarner, will attend Lenoir-Rhyne College to major in history.
Stephanie Nicole Cornwell, daughter of Stephen Cornwell and Wanda Cornwell, will attend Gardner-Webb University to major in communication studies and
religious studies.
Lindsey Lea Ford, daughter of Steve and Susan Lackey and Lanny Ford, will attend the UNC-Chapel Hill to major in political science and secondary
education.
Jay Michael Heafner, son of Walt and Ann Heafner, will attend Davidson College or Wingate University to major in business.
Erica Diane Hutchins, daughter of Neil and Diane Hutchins, will attend UNC-Charlotte to major in middle grades math.
Jeneatta Marie Lopez, daughter of Sharon Lee Nelms, will attend Trevecca Nazarene University or Lenoir-Rhyne College to major in pre-med.
Sean Franklin Mauney, son of Kevin and Patricia Mauney, will attend Wake Forest University to major in pre-med.
Owen Blake Poole, son of Cynthia Mull Poole, will attend Lenoir-Rhyne College or UNC-Charlotte to major in computers and math.

Herbert “Chip” Wilmer, son of Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Wilmer Sr., will attend Davidson College to major in economics.
Sallie Elizabeth Lampron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lampron, will attend UNC-Chapel Hill to major in political science.
