Fundraising to continue
This year’s east Lincoln Relay for Life was bigger and better than the four that preceded it.
Organizers raised $188,000 toward the event’s overall $200,000 goal. The fund-raising event was anchored by 45 teams, up from 38 last year.
This year saw some new additions –– an 18-hole miniature golf course, instead of nine; a pie-eating contest; and a tribute to America. The Denver Fire
Department ladder truck hoisted the stars and stripes into the clouds, as songs blessing the flag and the country were sung in unison.
Although the entire goal was not reached by last weekend, relay organizer Patsy Black said there is no doubt the goal will be reached by the August deadline.
“Our teams, we set a goal, and we’re determined we’re going to meet that goal,” Black said.
With 5,000 in attendance, 45 teams and 225 survivors rounding the track, it was an utter success, she said.
Plans for next year’s relay are underway.
