N. Lincoln selects colors

Students want Knights to wear blue, black and silver

By ANDIE LEATHERMAN, LTN Staff Writer

March 29, 2002 - Royal blue, black and silver will be the North Lincoln Knights’ school colors when the doors open in 2003, school board members learned Wednesday night.

A group of future students selected the colors.

“Those are very unique colors,” said Associate Superintendent Ed Hatley. “The kids did a good job researching the colors.”

Hatley, who serves as advisory to the student committee, said that no other school in the county or North Lincoln’s athletic conference has those colors.

The decision was made early enough for builders to incorporate the colors into the building itself, Hatley said.

The school will open without a senior class, board members decided unanimously.

School staff recommended the arrangement which will allow rising seniors to graduate from the school where they have spent the previous three years.

“This is not an unusual pattern. Other counties do this,” said Superintendent Jim Watson.

North Lincoln will open with approximately 575 students. The following year the senior class that number will climb to 850.

School construction is on schedule, according to Bob Sebire of M.B. Kahn Construction Management Firm.

Footings in the main portion of the building are complete. Some plumbing is also complete. Pre-cast wall panels will be in place in May.

“We’ve made great progress,” Sebire said.

Construction also remains on schedule at West  Lincoln High, where improvements are being made. Roof decking was complete Wednesday and roofing began Thursday. Most of the footings are complete for the new roof also.

State officials are reviewing the plans for the redesigned sewage system. It should be complete by fall, Sebire told the board.
